Thanks a lot, really helpful for the Costar stabs of the spacebar specifically on a Niz Plum which still denies to permanently stop ticking. But no ticking on the shorter keycaps stabs. These are stubborn annoying stabs.

thanks for making this, I am a Filco enthusiast and my one major issue with them is the Costar stabilizers as well

Ty!! omg that aluminum housing is amazing. But the ricochet sound between the space bar & housing drives me crazy. I have this exact model keyboard w/ the black body - I now regret not getting red lol.. anyway, will you plz share if you know anywhere/anyone from whom one could purchase a custom, 2 piece, usbc to usbc cabled or this exact model? ​@@keebface it was a bit without context (in case you are interested): I recently got my latest "endgame" keyboard and thus had some room to start modifying my 15 year old Filco: Desoldered all switches, added MillMax sockets instead to make it hot-swappable and the stabs were a major concern - they sound like ass... I was wondering if I should commit and get some cherry style stabs and modify the plate, but your vid saved me a lot of time and thinking :-)

Nice!! would you recommend doing this to all the stabs on the F97 or just the spacebar?

I've not needed to do all of mine on either yet as they haven't started rattling or ticking. Lube alone seems to really last a long time in the shorter ones.

Thanks for this! You don't see much mention of costar stabiliser boards in the mechanical keyboard scene it seems. I have 2 x Filco Majestouch boards and they are good, high quality boards albeit a little bit boring and plain. The costar stabiliser design definitely doesn't sound as nice as the cherry, and unfortunately these filco boards have soldered switches so they're not very mod friendly. I am planning on modding them soon to include case dampening (maybe a silicone mold pour), replacing cherry mx blue/browns for something like akko jelly blacks/silvers and also some new pbt keycaps. I will definitely use this video as a guide! Cheers

Just got a new F97 and I am loving it! However, is it normal for the space bar to move a little kind of like wobbling when touching the keycap? Or should the F97 have no back and forth movement when touching the keycap and not pressing?

@@keebface Thanks for the reply! I went with the TTC Gold Pink Switches. It's not a ton of movement but if I rock my find back and forth on the spacebar the key can move a little bit towards me and away from me. I hope that makes sense.

@@michaelstanley2277always a little play, but shouldn't be much as they are box switches, so have little stem wobble.

@@keebface this is my other account lol. Thanks for the reply. I noticed it most if you pushed your finger from the bottom of the space bar (part facing the frame) forward. All other keys have very little wobble as you mentioned with the box switches.

@@mstanleytv3031 I just checked it on mine. The spacebar has the same up and down play on mine as all the other keys, it just looks more obvious because you can see the whole bottom edge of the keycap.

Can we swap costar stabilizer to other stabilizers on IQUNIX?

No, unfortunately you can't. The shape and size of the cutout in the plate is different.

Honestly... Costar for me personally just sound, feel and mod are so much better. Way to many points of failure in a cherry stabilizer
