Nice video. And replaced the entire valve cover with new Pcv assembly. Cleaned map sensor and still have the code. Come to find out there’s a service bulletin from VW which states in higher mileage 2.5 engines (75k+) miles a software update is required. So all that work and I now have to spend few hundred for a software update. I’m gonna just live with the light.

Thank you for this guide on 1 way of fixing this code. This worked for my 13 vw passat. I was having transmission issues and dealership couldn't help me so they recommended a used transmission which I sadly bought into and 1k miles later same issue. This whole issue was a stupid cap for 30$ lol may I'm so pissed that I'm out $2600.

@@ditikoci1432 I was having issues while mainly in stop and go traffic were the transmission would hold gears then shift really hard. Also when using cruise control I was getting the same issue where the transmission would start holding shifts then shift really hard. I was told I needed to wait until it threw a code which it finally did and it was throttle body and range sensor. I replaces the valve cap for the throttle body shown in this video and it's helped a ton, it did stop throwing that code which I'm happy. I sometimes get it now but I haven't had an issue for about 2 months. I need to replace throttle body and range sensor when I get the time to or when the issue comes back. Mind you too I now have a 80k milage used transmission. My passat has 180k and it's been dealer kept since I bought it so it's in great shape

Appreciate the tip. We replaced the valve cover last year, same car, same code is back. I thought the PCV was built into the cover, so maybe it needs to be replaced once a year? I wouldn't be surprised. I have Honda's that come in all of the time needing PCV valves, at least Honda's are easy to change compared to this VW. BTW, what's with the music?

According to O'Reilly's, replacing the MAP sensor is 68 times more likely to fix the P0106 error than the PCV valve. The next most likely fix, according to the error code diagnostic they printed for me, was the throttle body (MAP sensor about 4 times more likely to be the problem than the throttle body, still). Don't know how reliable these reports are but thought I'd share. Great video! Thank you!

from what I've read, a failing PCV lets oil get into the inlet, so it does make sense to replace. If there is oil, one might try cleaning the MAP sensor. But if need new, luckily it's pretty cheap. Apparently the leaky PCV valve is one of the few faults w/ the good 'ole 2.5. Crank sensors are another.....and also fairly cheap to fix. Not as powerful as 2.0T, but sure a lot less problematic.

MAP sensor replacement is the last step. 1. Just check the hose connected to the PCV valve. 2. If not resolved then Check PCV valve and if required, replace it. 3. Done 4. If still not resolved then just unplug the MAP sensor and check the connectivity. If shows short circuit then replace it.

I cleaned the sensor and replaced the PCV valve diaphragm, cleared the code and now it is back a week later, should I replace the sensor too?, the car drives normally. I just cleaned the air intake valve body and cleaned my K&N air filter and cleared the code again, to see if it is a restriction compensation thing, I don't think the sensor is bad because shouldn't the car idle be rough or something to that effect?

Okay so my OBDII reader says 0 Codes 9 ready so I think it's good? , and the car does not jerk anymore like the feeling of shifting to early, interesting results, and my driving mode lights all stopped coming on at the same time at random, I know it has only been a week an a half but those lights were coming on pretty frequently and the car drove awful before now. much smoother. so this might mean the sensor is good still.

Map sensors measure vacuum pressure. On some korean GM cars (suzuki reno&forenza) a bad map sensor can make the car turn off or go into limp home mode. In most cars if the maps actually bad and you keep driving it then you have other trouble codes showing up

Whats the link between p0106 and the pcv diaphram? Can map sensor reading can be affected by a bad pcv? I just bought a 10 Jetta put 1k on it with no CEL but have 2 dtc's P0106(Pending) P0139(stored) I belive the codes are unrelated. I think 139 was caused by a bad heated o2 sensor. I know pcv systems on these can be garbage. I did the oldschool volvo style pcv checks and the car seems to be ok. Only issue is about 4.8quarts of oil came out after about 7k -previous owner ran 6q 5w-30. I'm hoping my pcv system isnt causing oil consumption. Anyone have their opinion? Thanks in advance :)

The PCV diaphragm gets brittle and cracks. Then oil vapor gets into the intake and builds up on the map sensor causing it to fault out of range.
