THAT is a useful video! I appreciate how in 1 minute 27 seconds you clearly explain exactly how to orient yourself to the ironing board, what does what and how to fix it. We've been sitting with the ironing board stuck open for days and I was on the verge of throwing it away. In less time than it took my wife to dust the living room, I looked this up, had it fixed and put away. Thanks for taking the time!

Thanks for your clear explanation and demonstration. Out of 4 videos I've just tried on the same topic, yours is the best by far. Your solution worked right away!

Thank You! I counted myself an idiot for a month because the handle fell out and I could not get my ironing board to collapse again. I knew that little metal piece was the key, but in my case I had to whack it with a screwdriver and hammer to make it release. Once I did, I was able to get that diabolical little metal handle back in and now I can put it in a garage sale!! 🙂

I just fixed mine, however, my lever is attached to the ironing board so it can never come out. The lever had somehow slipped from under one of the little flaps that covered the lever. I also discovered gobs of dirt and semi rust. I cleaned that off and added some 3 in one Household oil to the metal rod that the legs slide up and down on. I also added it to the release tab and lever its self. Who knew! Ironing board is over 20 years old. Thanks to you I can keep using it for another 20. LOL.

Thank you! This was most helpful. The ironing board is now closed. I now understand that our ironing board failed b/c the metal mesh at the top of the board had snapped and the mechanism will no longer stay put.

Thank you. If others pointed out the fact that the lever that releases the rod needs to be pushed back (against the spring) for this to fold, it would haven been a lot easier for me to understand how this mechanism works. Instead, they say that this needs to be pushed "up", which is incorrect.

rmannava thank you for replying back. what would I be loosening up? there is nothing to screw loose. I was checking out that metal piece and it looks like there is no room to push back. that was what you said to do right?

  • @rmannava

Joyce Lubin I think you have to push the top of the plate forward towards the nose of the board. If it's really stuck you might try a drop of oil or two along where the plate contacts the other parts.
