LOL cuz I'v done hundreds of them :) But when I started doing computer repair, I broke SOOOOO MANY keys lol.

question, i think the retainer clip of one of my keycaps got separated into two pieces (one piece for the middle and the other for the sides), and i'm currently having trouble trying to put it back. is this thing broken or is it possible to make it work properly again? thanks!

They fit together with a small plastic pin on the left and right of the inner clip. These fit into holes on the outer clip. To see exactly how the inner clip sits in the outer clip, remove another key cap and copy the clip under it.

@@laikathestar174 Sorry to hear :( Keys can definitely be super frustrating. When I started computer repair, it was my least favorite thing and I broke dozens lol :( I usually get my keys on Ebay or www.replacementlaptopkeys.com. If you cannot find a loose key for sale, you may have to purchase a keyboard and take a key from there.

@@PC_Monkey I think those pins must break off pretty easily because they're completely missing from the middle piece on one of my keys. Guess I gotta order a replacement :(

Thank you! This was really helpful, I just fixed mine. I had to add a little tape/bump above the rubber thingy in the plastic in F3 key so it would click.

If your Key Cap is not clicking down in place correctly, it is most likely due to the Retainer Clip not being properly installed or damaged. Remove the Cap and inspect for damage or that its not laying down flush and properly snapped in itself. Compare to another Clip if needed by removing another Cap.

Thanks! Our cat removed a key from my girlfriend's laptop (yes, I'm serious) and I was sure the key was a goner. 😂 But miracles do happen and those thin plastics did not break. I managed to get it back, but had to do it top first for some reason. Still, this video was a life saver!

tip if you know the metal tabs arnt bent and the retainer isnt broken you can clip the retainer onto the keycap first and then use the keycap to guide it on then click it on!

@@JudgefiregamingVlogs There is usually a difference in different models. Even in the same model sometimes keys can have different hinge clips. But they are all basically the same and can be removed and installed the same basic way

As stated in the video, you would remove a key if you were taking it from a keyboard in order to install it to your own keyboard. You would replace a key on your keyboard if the key is broken / damaged and no longer works as it should. Make sense?

Yes when i press the key it feels just about right and it actually goes back up after i press it so it is not sticking either however it is automatically being pressed even if im not pressing it. 2. I did not have any issue in terms of overheating/ Liquid spills however i did not open or touch the laptop for about 2 weeks since i went on a vacation. I actually disabled the key using keytweak as a temporary solution but i still want to know if maybe changing the key will fix it. Thank you!

The brightness key came off on my laptop and I can’t get the pins in their holes to snap in like you did. I can only get one side under it’s pin. On my key the retainer pin is attached to the top of the key. Should I put the retainer clip in first?

Yes. As seen here, the retainer clip or hinge clip goes in first. Then the key cap snaps onto it once its been properly installed

I have an Acer Swift 3 and I need to clean underneath some of the keys, because juice spill with sticky consequences :( Does it work the same with removing the keys and putting them back on? And do you have an other tips for cleaning? Like what to use for cleaning it once i get the keys off?

Yes, this video will show you how to safely remove the key then reinstall it. I usually use a 70% Isopropyl Alcohol mix to clean as it gets up sticky stuff but dries fast due to the alcohol.

You should be able to remove it by using as small flat screw drive as seen here
