Thank you for this video! We made kettle corn in the pan last night and cranked it one too many times. The lower gear came off and I thought it was beyond repair. I found your video this morning and now I’m happy to say we will be making popcorn tonight with our good as new pan!

Gears arrived today, with instructions and coupons. Had to watch the WP video though to get them both on, and it's done and ready to pop! Thanks for thinking to make this video, as I nearly donated the pot and tossed the top!

I have a metal whirley pop and the gears sometimes slip. One solution I used to pop it back in place was to put the lid on then I used a dough hook and applied a fair amount if pressure to the top gear (after greasing it of course) Then turned the crank a couple times and it will pop back into place. It's just a little more pressure than my hands could muster. Not too bad.

Where did you get the gear from?

Google 'Whirley Pop.' They will get you registered if you aren't already, you will give them your address, and they will send it to you free of charge.

I tried registering when I first got mine. It wouldn't accept my address and now my gear is cracked and have no warranty. Not happy about it :( I love my Whirley Pop but won't be buying another until the gears are no longer plastic.

Nice video, but I think Whirley Pop needs to make metal gears! :)

+songplugger - They do, but for some strange reason they think it's smart business sense to sell a crappy plastic gear version that consumers can spend $5 less on. But then Whirley Pop spends money repeatedly sending out replacement plastic gears and suffering a sketchy reliability reputation. Seems a poor business model to me. They should simply make all their versions with metal gears and avoid the problem in the first place.

Mine has something wrong inside the handle. When I turn the crank, the rod doesn't turn, therefore the gears don't turn. How do I fix that?

Connie Chow your gears might be bound together, or the agitator might be upside down.

Joby F. Randrup Everything works perfectly until there’s about two inches of popped corn in the pan, then, even as I continue to crank the handle, the rod stops turning. It feels like something in the handle has disengaged; the popcorn has become too heavy to push; there’s no power to turn the rod. The gears on top are fine and the handle turns, but the rod stops turning. I can’t visualize how the handle turns the rod. What does the inside of the handle look like? How does the handle turn the rod? Can you post an image or video of this?

Connie Chow the rod is solid meaning it is only one piece. Is it possible that the gear attached to the rod is slipping when it gets a little harder to turn? Are you saying it turns freely but nothing happens or does the rod seem frozen or stuck?

I bought a Whirley Pop, used it maybe a dozen times and the gears broke. Now, I had read people's warnings about being gentle with the plastic gears, so I was very gentle with turning the crank, making sure to stop when immediately when it gave resistance. And they still broke. I requested and received the replacement gears. But I'm guessing that this means I'd have to request replacement gears every 12th time I use this thing, and then have to repair it to boot. Now, the company is aware that the gears are faulty, yet they continue to sell the product. I'm sorry, but I don't call that standing by your product, I call that ripping people off.

Lisa Elle I'm sorry you have had a bad experience. Rattrap Productions does not promote products rather show the viewer how to fix various products if they need maintenance. We just thought it was refreshing to have a company willing to send out replacement parts free of charge. We have not had problems since the gear replacement but are careful not to put more than 1/2 cup of kernels in at a time. It seems problems mostly occur when too much popcorn is popped at one time.

The plastic gears are crap... buy the lid with metal gears... It would be nice if they just sold the metal gears so your fix would be permanent.
