Well, gave it a go an hour ago. Worked great. Thanks Dave. What I would say is that this is a good solution if the lock recess strip is a good 10mm out. If its only 5mm or so, its probably best to adjust hinges. You can confirm this by opening door, put in locked position, and mark where the inside of the lock 'hook' sits relative to the recess its meant to go in. If its only slightly out, moving the strip will mean the new holes you make with the screws will be too close to the old ones which could cause a real mess. The other thing to note is that whilst its fine to use a power bit, stop before the screw is fully in, and finish with a screwdriver to avoid stripping the frame with the screws. Some minor adjustment of hinges may be required to get it just right (mine did), plus the usual adjustments on the strip so the door shuts snug without rattles. Hope that helps someone.

Worked a treat thank you! I had little plastic screw plugs behind the plate which all fell off, but with a little persuasion I was able to loosely re-attach them after a practise run. (in my case 3 screws to hold plate in position and try the lock). I lined up the handle lock and catch on the plate which automatically aligned the top and bottom hook catches. Very happy!

Unfortunately this didn’t work for ours, had about 20 cross head screws, and 3/4 stars shaped screws, one of which was rounded off(near the main lock in the middle) so couldn’t adjust the long metal strip, as one screw was still holding it in place. I did however, manage to move both upper and lower parts freely with my hand, whilst the upper and lower sections were pulled away from the door, but the handle still wouldn’t budge. The problem seems to be by the handle area, but I’ve took the handles off, can’t see anything I can adjust there, as it’s inside the actual door. I sprayed lots of wd40 on it after putting it back together, it’s a lot better after oiling, but this only lasts a few days before the handle gets stuck again. So annoying, been quoted £60 for the local lock smiths to come out, not including any parts they may need to replace

Hi mate, my door UPVC door handle is not going all the way up, the latches line up ok though, also it fails to push the latches out when we try to lift it even if the door is open (no resistance from anything). If a manually pull a latch or two on the side of the door down the entire run of mechs come forward to the lock position, then if I pull the handle down it brings them back in, but when going up it does not push them back out into the lock position at all even with door open. Inside the handle the square floating centre that the handle bar travels through is very loose and almost spining with the slightest touch. Do you think I need to strip off the entire strip of metal, inspect the inner mech and replace it? I'm guessing its goosed. Thanks in advance for any help.

@@lbm8639 lol, technical discussion... yeah the panel should have the perimeter to allow for 3-5mm packing in the necessary corners but you wouldn't really want to over toe and heel it, you'd want the sash parallel with the head for aesthetics, as you say, small amounts of vertical adjustment can be made on the hinge but if that wasn't enough you would drop the keeps. The way I fit a door is to first level the head, if the jambs are slightly different heights it looks better with the head level than the threshold IMHO especially on composite doors. I plumb it all up then adjust the hinges so the lock side of the sash lines up exactly straight with the outer frame and then glaze/ toe and heel the sash level with the head. Using the latch as the guide, tweak the hinges vertically up until its centralised, moving keep/s if necessary once the leaf sits equidistant between the head and threshold being careful with low alu threshold not to lift it past any seals making it draughty... ✌

This is total rubbish.... it may fix it, it may not... but that strip is not the problem....The door has dropped and needs repacking, adjustment could possibly be done via hinges... But what you have to work out is this door would of worked when new and that strip has not moved!! So what did! I would not listen to someone who thinks he knows, but in fact knows naff all!! This is a total codge job...!
