When you have an engine that runs on choke like this one did , it is the idle jet that should be cleaned , if the main jet is clogged or dirty the engine will not run . Most of the fuel comes from the main jet , the idle jet provides the last little bit it needs to run properly .The newer carbs run very lean .

What’s your favorite machine to do carb cleaning? Lately I have been getting lots of machines that require belt changes, I used to hate them but now I got a little bit better at them 😅 My favorite carb cleaning machine is the Troy bilts

Older snowblower that have the Tecumseh engines on them. So much easier to get to the carburetor.
Had a SN 270 that was running on full choke, then about a week later, refused to stay running unless continually pressing the primer bulb. Removed to bowl and disassembled the main jet leaving the carb on the engine. Pinhole on the retainer screw was green and gummed up. Runs like new after cleaning. Thanks for the guidance.
