Samsung Refrigerator water dispenser not working? The water valve solenoid hums-buzzes, but there’s no water. In this video I’ll walk you through the steps I took to fix my Samsung water dispenser and get the water flowing again. These steps are performed on a Samsung Refrigerator model: RF263TEAESG/AA-01.

I love how detailed this video is. It is a great resource if you need to replace the valve. HOWEVER, don't assume this is your problem if you're not getting water from the dispenser. Some further research/videos proved that in my case the water line had frozen where it runs past the icemaker. Defrosting the line fixed this same problem. As always, do your due diligence before spending a bunch of time and money..

This is a good point. I'm curious, were your ice makers working? Or, were those lines frozen as well? Also, what temp do you have your fridge and freezer set to? I had an issue where water was pooling at the bottom of the fridge because the drain line froze. My theory was the insulation around the drain is insufficient so I raised the temp of the fridge to 38 and the freezer to 0 degrees and haven't had an issue since then. Thanks for your feedback.

Thanks for providing this very helpful video from start-to-finish. I have the very same exact model Samsung refrigerator as yours here, as well, and it took me a few hours at least, but would have been much longer had I not had this video of yours to follow along with for certain. Lastly, after installing the new "water filter assembly" unit here, now my water dispenser is back to "DESPENSING" once again. Many Thanks!!!

My model RF28HMEDBSR/AA-00 Samsung frig is now 7 years old, surprise! I had the EXACT same problem, plenty of ice and no water! I solved the problem by removing both drawers next to the filter housing. Then I smacked sharply both sides of the rear of the housing where the valves were at (away from the LEDs) with the handle of a medium sized screw driver. I tested the water dispenser, still no water. I placed both drawers back in and retested. BINGO! Fresh water came out nice and strong! This repair was FREE except I changed the filter at 9 months instead of my normal 12 months to eliminate that possibility. IF the valve itself can be obtained separately from the housing you would save $230 by not needlessly buying the housing. All you need are numbers from the valve itself to find the correct replacement. Oh yeah, I SAW how the connections were permanent between the valve, filter and reservoir, but that is easily spliced. Fortunately, I found the best solution anyway. And why does Samsung literally make over 2000 DIFFERENT MODEL NUMBERS of refrigerators? Couldn't they get it right with the 3rd or 4th model, RIGHT???

Thank you so much. I have the same problem . Now I’m thinking and planning my repair. The part is $205 😢 . New fridge is $2000 . If I can use the fridge for another 5 years providing the ice maker don’t break I’ll be okay . $2000 new fridge mean I have to amortize the new fridge for another 10 years Thank to your help

Good question; the answer is I tried. I ordered the valves for my fridge and what came only had two valves not three (top ice maker, lower ice maker, water dispenser). I contacted them and they said I had to order the whole assembly. So, I returned the valves and got the assembly.

Keep in mind that I’m NOT an appliance repair technician. With that said; here are the steps I’d take: 1) Verify the water is properly connected to the refrigerator and the water valve is turned on. 2) Check the refrigerator for error codes. Since you have a different model than mine; you’ll have to research how to get the error codes. 3) Replace any parts related to any error codes you received. 4) For my model, the filter housing contains valves for both the ice maker(s) and the water dispenser. Therefore, it’s possible both valves are bad and replacing the filter assembly with fix both. 5) If replacing the filter assembly fixes the water dispenser, but not the ice maker, you may need to replace the “Water Fill Tube Assembly” (see my video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z4mF09eAYK2wZ5s.html ). I hope this helps.

Since you have to remove valves and reservoir to get the lights out and back in, is is possible to transfer those innards to the old assembly from a new one (as it looks like I may be having to do this repair soon). Thanks for the great video.

That's a good idea. It may be difficult to find the correct part though. I did a quick search for "Samsung refrigerator rf263teaesg/aa-01 solenoid" and the solenoids which appeared only have two solenoids where my refrigerator model has three.

@DIY-Saver My line must’ve been frozen. I guess my temp was too low. My brother suggested turning it up to 38-39. After about a day or so it resumed working. 😊 But now my ice maker has stopped working. Ugg 🤦‍♀️ Fortunately I have no problem living without ice.

The timing with the filter replacement seems suspicious. Check to see if the filter is tightened all the way. If that doesn't help try a new filter in case you have a defective filter.

That 60 hertz buzzing from the valve solenoid is designed to add a slight ultrasonic cleaning action to the valve it's connected to. Bet you didn't know that, huh! It ALSO tells you the handle switch AND solenoid are both working, as you stated. It is engineering stupidity to put the valve assembly IN the filter housing instead of behind the frig, but HEY, they saved 5 cents on hoses!

  • @DIY-Saver

Please keep in mind that I'm NOT an appliance technician. If you truly believe it's related to the pipe breakage incident; I would replace the water filter to see if it's plugged from sediment in the water line. Otherwise, I suggest contacting an appliance repair company.

Is this the same repair steps for the 4 door samsung? Mine works but it dribbles out - starts to "hop around" with a faster flow then flows but very slowly. So frustrating.

  • @DIY-Saver

Sorry, it doesn't sound like the same repair would apply to your refrigerator. Have you tried replacing the filter? After replacing the filter, did you run a couple gallons of water through it (this step helps to stop dripping)?

My water dispenser has a similar issue. I'm trying to figure it out. I think there may be multiple issues. I found one video that shows there can be a problem with the water freezing in the line at the top of the refrigerator. The solution in that video was to run the line externally, which required creating a slot/hole in the cover through which the water line would pass. I've experienced the variable flow that you've mentioned, which I think is air in the line. This condition is temporary in my experience. Sometimes the water flow stops. Removing the filter and giving it some forceful blows with a rubber mallet has had some effect to restore flow. I think that's another issue. When that should have worked, but the water still doesn't dispense, I can hear a sort-of crunch/squeeze sound from the top area of the fridge where the water dispenser line is. I think this is water pressure pushing against an ice blockage. At this point, I still haven't fixed the problem. I'm just looking at what other people have done about it and trying to apply their knowledge gained from their experience.
