How to Fix a Noisy, Squeaking or Screeching Frigidaire Dryer

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I show you how to fix a Frigidaire Dryer that is making alot of noise when it runs. The rear of the drum rides in a socket. When this socket wears out, the dryer can get real noisy, even make some grinding noises.
Here is a link to the parts in the video:

Mr. Newberry, THANK YOU!!!!! I had been ignoring the intermittent squeak in my dryer until it became a constant squeak. I searched KZread and found this video and the one on changing the dryer belt. I watched them a few times, ordered the parts pack, and amazingly enough, IT WORKED JUST LIKE YOU SHOWED! I am a Murphy Law man myself, but this time WOW! I highly recommend your videos and especially want to tell others to vacuum out the dryer while doing this repair. I found lint everywhere, especially in the motor windings. Again, THANKS!!!

Thank you so much, Bill, for providing this video! I would never have dared to try to fix it myself if I hadn't found your video. But after seeing it, I ordered the kit with the link you provided and successfully did the job myself - took between 2 and 2-1/2 hours. (The first hour was figuring out how to get the dryer apart because it was quite a bit different than the one you show in the link....) A couple of things I might add, if I may 1) the parts contained in the kit are made slightly less expensively that the parts I removed and the ones you show. In particular, the ball bearing didn't "snap" into its final place in the holder - it just slid in all the way. (I kept pushing on the drum to try to get it to "snap" into that last little bit before I figured out the difference.) 2) there were one or two places where having a helper (for like a minute) might have helped - for a second set of hands. The biggest one was when I was attaching the new "ball bearing assembly" to the drum. I couldn't reach my arm with a screwdriver all the way into the drum and, at the same time, be able to look at the bearing assembly on the back of the drum to line up the screws and the holes. Eventually I used a very long, magnetic phillips-head screwdriver to hold the screws roughly in place while aligning the assembly behind the drum and getting the screws started. It was slightly difficult to mount the unit that goes on the back of the washer with the tiny ball bearing. Here my arm pretty much reached and I could look on one side, then the other, to get things lined up... left it slightly loose and slipped the tiny ball into place from the back side and held it there while tightening the "bolts" on the inside. Again, thank you so much for producing this - I never would have attempted this without your help.

I have this exact dryer. Mine started squeaking a few days ago so I took it apart and sure enough the ball and socket were pretty dry. I cleaned the socket out and also cleaned off the ball and found nothing to be worn out so I simply packed new grease in the socket and also coated the ball with grease as well, no more squeak!!! I think the part that was squeaking was where the little steel ball bearing fits into a small cupped area on the larger steel ball. Your video about how to change the belt on this dryer really helped me figure out how to take it all apart. Thanks for your "how to" videos, you explain things very well. 👍👍👍

Thanks for all the video's you do! I started in this career about two years ago and find myself watching your videos to continue my education. Quick question for you about the bearing replacement, what's your trick for keeping the "bb" in place while screwing it in? I've used masking tape doubled over so it's not sticky. Haven't tried a magnet yet but think i may try that on my next one.

I was able to do this repair/replacement myself in less than 4 hours start to finish! Your instructions and links to the parts and further disassembly are pretty much spot on! I had to take a few more things apart from the drum because my drum wouldn't lift out, so I had to use a hammer to pound it out after detaching the drum from the back of the dryer, but I got everything back together and it works great! Not too bad for a female DIYer!

Great video. How can I have separate power cords for the washer and dryer? Currently my GE stackable washer and dryer combo had only one cord. However I understand the washer and dryer have separate circuits so in theory is it possible to separate the power input such that the washer and dryer each has it own separate power cord? Thanks.

I have a Frigidaire dryer that makes a rumbling noise after it runs for about 10 minutes. I bought a new bearing replacement kit but the bearing has a protrusion coming out of the end where it would come in contact with the ball bearing. My old bearing had an indent where the ball would rest. Is this a defective part?

He charged me nothing, but I gave him money anyway. That was a few years ago. I’ve since repeated the oil treatment. Several years, 4+ drops of oil, no noise.

Take the metal louvered cover off of back of dryer. Reach in & move the idler arm to the left, that will take tension off the belt. Then slip belt off of the motor pulley. Once off pullies, slide belt towards front of drum & it comes off.

I looked inside the dryer and at the entire front and no indication of who the maker is. All I see is 'wrinkle minder' on the control panel. What manufacturer would not put their name right on the front or on the control panel ? When I look on the back of the machine, it was sold by JC Penney back in the 1980s, since I bought my house in 1991 and it was there when I moved in. So, whoever made machines for Penney's would help. Like Frigidaire or GE.
