How to fix a loose Canon 5D III hot shoe / wobbly Canon speedlite flash - Easy!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This should work with probably any canon hot shoe. Easy simple fix! Many people have reached out and stated to get the best hold you would need to dab a small amount of "loctite" to prevent unscrewing of the screws (dab on the last few threads). Please do so at your own risk. This video is for educational purposes only.

    Finally, the topic Not addressed by so many other videos. I stopped using my Minolta X-700 35mm in the early 90's bcuz a larger Flash unit I was using, caused the shoe to loosen, tilt or bend (my thought). And so I tucked iy away in its case bcuz I thought I'd have to send it out for an expensive repair. Now, 28 years later, I thought of buying a Canon rebel 5i. But thought to pull this one out of storage and KZread the problem. And Wow, who would of thought! All done. Many thanks.

    Man, if you were in front of me I would give you a huge hug....maybe awkwardly longer than you would expect because you have saved me from a huge headache...in addition to S&H and probably a repair expense to Canon! I was having an issue with my Pocket Wizard not transmitting a signal to my receiver and had to gently push on the wizard with my thumb while the camera was in a portrait orientation to get the hotshoe contacts to...well, contact. Not no mo' sunshine! Thanks for taking the time to post this. YOU ROCK!

    Many thanks for sharing this. You are a life saver !!! Both the hot shoes on my 5D mark 3's were loose, and all my speedlites would not work. I couldn't get a guarantee from Canon UK that I would have them back to me before a shoot at the weekend, then I found your video !!!! Total, total star !!!!! :-)

    I was actually trying to fix a slightly different problem. I lost my hot shoe on my 5D and wanted to replace it with one from a 50D. But this video showed me it's not that difficult. And it works! Probably saved me a lot of money in repairs!! Thanks!

    Great tutorial, I didn't even realize the metal plate there that covered the screws. I was hoping the screws weren't on the reverse side under the plastic. Years of a 600EX-RT attached will cause this problem for everyone it seems. I'll add if the metal plate seems stuck on there may be 2 small dabs of solid epoxy, this is trivial to remove you just have to bend the metal using something really thin like a sewing needle and it'll break loose. I wonder if Canon fixed this issue with newer bodies, 4 dinky screws don't seem like a longterm solution for a hotshoe.

    How do I remove the hotshoe altogether? I don't want something that sharp on my camera, never use it. I can't get under the hotshoe thingy with a screwdriver.

  • @photovideo1015

    @photovideo1015

    +Aurelie Nani I would avoid that as there may be a risk something might break and make your camera loose value. Also if it rains that might not be a good idea with the inside components open to moisture. Try getting a hotshoe cover. Here one on amazon. www.amazon.com/Foto-Tech-Standard-EOS-1D-PowerShot/dp/B00J2H75VO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1442355925&sr=8-1&keywords=hot+shoe+cover+canon

    This method is useless: some time later screws will be unscrewed again. You should use threadlochker. You know, this blue stuff: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/99/Thread-locking_fluid_applied.jpg And since it's obvious that no one wants to disconnect hot shoe from the body, you can use the strong one.
