This is the first place that I seen a detailed discussion of tension in the upper trap and neck. I found this a fascinating. I filmed myself this morning and in my novice opinion my bow arm looks good. It is a different story with my draw shoulder. It shows a tremendous amount of tension in the upper trap with a lot of creases in my neck. I am not shooting with an Olympic style anchor. I anchor higher up (middle finger under the zygomatic ridge.... just looked up the scientific term:) . I am working on my shooting form for bowhunting. The coaching I have recieved has taught me to load the bow in the same manner as with an Olympic anchor and then elevate to my anchor. I know that I need to reduce the tension I have in the upper trap region of my draw shoulder, but is it possible to remove all of the creases in the neck with a higher anchor point? Thanks for sharing your knowledge, Jim

It should be possible still, but it will be harder! Start with a light band first and work your way up :)

I don't want a yellow bow. Or any modern bow. They are an abomination in our sport.😅 But, my taste aside, really good and informative video, thank you very much for your knowledge! P.S. Trad archer here, so my start shouldn't bother anyone too much...🤝

@@OnlineArcheryAcademy Glad, that you can understand a joke. I'm a 3d longbow competitive archer. In last 5 years or so, here in Europe the best trad archers have made tremendous improvements in their's personal shooting technique. The mindset, that traditional shooting is something different, for which you don't need to develop a good shot process, and good, sound, biomechanicaly efficient technique, is surpassed. All the best archers train with FITA Olympic recurve archers, despite some differences in how a traditional bow reacts during and immediately after the shot. So, I am more than grateful, that I can acquire such a quality information here, and it's free! I really appreciate it, greetings, and best wishes from me.

It is less controlled, and lots of that is because of the upper traps tension I mentioned as well - this is why it's so important to get the full draw position right and expand in the right way, as it improves the release massively :)
