Thanks! I tried but turns out my wire was bad so I'm continuing to use a jumper wire at the connector.

What does this switch do? I guess there's something wrong with my top because when I close it, it doesn't stop like yours, it rather slaps the windshield so I have to catch it before it does.

The switch is just a safeguard. Basically, it doesn't allow you to operate the top when it's closed/latched. When you unlatch the top and pull it back 10 inches or so, the switch is depressed, this closing the circuit, which allows the top to operate.
