How to fix a Composite Glider Fuselage

Спорт

This is a basic repair guide designed to appeal to all levels. Yes, there are tidier and better ways, but for most pilots who just want to get back flying, this works. I will do another video on a more detailed repair at a later date

The method that I use is to wrap two bits of 10mm aluminium angle about a foot long each side of the fuselage with tape. This makes sure that the two bits of the boom are perfectly aligned and gives you room to dab a bit of CA into the break to tack the two bits of the boom together. Then cut back the gelcoat and apply the bandage. If the pushrods are also broken you can get inside the boom and do an internal bandage instead (or as well) but still use the right angle to align the bits while the joining epoxy sets. An inflated condom helps keep the internal bandage pressed against the insides of the boom while the epoxy sets. Use pieces of the broken pushrod oiled up with vaseline in the break area to keep epoxy out of the broken rod tubes so that new pushrods can be easily installed later.

Thanks for the video. Hopefully it'll encourage me to drag the two broken fuselages out froim the back of the hangar and get them repaired
