My bike did this out of the blue last week. And wanted to know what part failed and I understand now from your video, thanks pal! Stood up to petal harder and it didn't catch and the failure was out of the blue. I went forward and smashed my goolies on the handlebars and only just caught myself from going over. My scrote is bruised and went purple! Had to stay in hospital for it.
I just did the same thing in 2 minutes by pouring olive oil into my rear cassette and spinning it a few times. Great video that made it easier for me

Some WD-40 followed by olive oil and my bike's back in business. Didn't even have to take the gears off. Great advice!
This saved me about $75.Thanks for such awesome instruction .

Hell yes!
This was incredibly comprehensive. Sadly I'll need more tools than I have to do this myself.
I cant believe it but I just did this and it worked. Thank you so much saving me some money.
I bought a bike that had spun brother ways and it sure enough, this was the fix! Thank you so much man!

i wish i thought to watch this video last night!! instead i was up half the night, little sleep, late for work, late getting home, exhausted..before admitting that i am an idiot, not an expert and maybe i should watch and learn before destroying the rear wheel.
💚 Good instructions. Problem on my MTB today.
outstanding help. Thank you 🙏🏻
That was it. Thanks for the info! I had to scooter back to my car, but got it fixed with your help thanks!

Great DIY.
Thank you very much! I’ve just saved a cassette with this method.
Amazing , you did all that and your hands were still clean . Mine still get worse than that with gloves on :))
Oh my GOd, thank you so much for the video. i have the problem just few minutes ago and start find how to fix the rear wheel, i did not take off the rear wheel. i used spray lubricant only take 1 minute and the wheel back normal again. Even more better. thanks again..
Brilliant now I know what to do, easy to understand video thanks Rob
Thanks for the great video, I’m gonna work on mine tomorrow. My hub is freely spinning and it’s about 10 degree’s out for the last month….
I learnt a lot from this video [from a guy who knows a good deal about bikes]

Do you use Park Tool FR4 to remove the lock ring ?
Great video, thank you!!!
Awesome. I just went for a ride and my cassette-hub stopped engaging. Is the problem always on the Hub or can this be a cassette problem too? Thanks

It’s almost never the cassette so I’d start with the hub!

Brilliant mate👍👍👍
Amazing going to try this wish me luck
That was very helpful information. You did a good job explaining every detail of how to go about. God bless you always brother!
Soo, I got one of these freehubs that's having this issue, but mine doesn't have the hex pattern to remove it, any idea how I might get it off? It just has a cylindrical hole all the way through for the solid axle, no super obvious way to remove it.
Thanks. Great vid
Wow! I wonder if I can just use the degreaser without disassembling the whole thing? I thought something broke but it's just debris? Update: After removing the wheel, I sprayed degreaser all into the crevices of the hub. It immediately fixed the problem. Now I just need to let that drain and spray oil into it. I'll grease it up later as I haven't the tools yet.

Well, I subscribed in the first 30s of the video. Duh.. of course! Why didn't I think of using an old chain instead of a chain whip LOL! good one.
Thank you much. You are the only one who doesn’t defer to something easier & more obvious. I have 2 cassettes ( bikes ) that slightly move before catching, not loose, not wobbly & I think it must be gunk.
Success, brilliant, bit of WD40 sprayed in the right place all that was needed. Thanks for sharing.

Just shit up ok
Thank you so much for posting this. Is it possible to crack these open and grease the pawls inside the cassette freehub?
Right. The same procedure that caused the freehub to gunk up in the first place. Do this after flushing all the grease out of the freehub bearings or course.
Thank you
I need more types of wrenches

Good tip old chain and pliers instead of buying a chain whip
thanks
Mine had bearings in the free hub and also on the other side of the wheel! Wasn't expecting that.

The bearings being in the freehub is what allows more than 7 speeds. When they used to make 8 spd free wheels the bearings were too far inwards and axles broke often.
Is there a way of doing this without pulling my wheel apart? This is happening on my rear hub motor wheel and it's a massive PITA taking that out of my frame.

No
i dissasembvled my freehub ocmpletely and reassembled it and the only part i did wrong was to put a little too much grease close to the pulse cause now it is rotating freelyt both ways. will the freehub regain its erection if i spin the wheel a little everyday or id the only option to spray stuff in it or reassmemble it again?
My cassette is completely of the wgeels axel? I went over an english sized pothole and something gave 😂 its not surpising as unintentional as it was, but its no longer fixed to the inside of the wwheel. How can i amend this?
I was grinding hard up a steep hill and heard a loud snap (I thought I'd snapped the chain) when my freehub stopped working. I'm assuming something else has additionally gone wrong in my case, or do you think this flush and re-grease method will work for me?
@tinkerbike2510

Definitely think the freehub should be replaced.

IT DOESNT WORK LIKE THAT ALL THE TIMES ! When they go they go !
What size was the allen wrench you used inside the hub? Couldn't catch that part. Thanks!

@@tinkerbike2510 Thanks-- tried a 10, but it was too small. I think some road bikes (like mine) actually use a 12 which you have to buy special-- not in many sets. Rest of your process is helpful though!

Easy af when you have the tools for the job. Not so when your on a limited budget, and without adequate lodging.
thx
Why does my freehub spin both ways in cold weather ?
Cant you just take the free hub cap off and clean it manually? Seems like it could be a bit more thourough, but this method seems to work as well so Im just wondering.

You’d be unable to access the pawls. You have to get at them from the back end of the freehub
What about the front rim because it barely spins and then it stops and goes backwards, this really makes me loose my balance while wheeling. How do I fix this

There’s no grease there to begin with. They’re only oiled. Grease would prevent the pawls from moving
How the casette fix? U just use a degriser And the casettes dont speen at the other side
