13 years after this 240p video made its debut on KZread, it is still the best tutorial to get stubborn tires on without using levers or destroying your tubes. Legend. None of the bike channel videos are this good.

Another happy viewer. After getting sweaty and frustrated for a half an hour with zero progress, I refrained from throwing the bike through the car windshield and retired to my office to cool off and find out how to mount a bike tire. Found this video and had two of them mounted within 20 minutes. Thanks again, and thanks for keeping this up for 13 years and counting.

One plastic and one metal levers are needed. Plastic one trailing to keep the tire seated, metal one doing all the heavy loads and moving forward. A liitle bit at a time, but shouldn't take that long if you do the easy stuff by have first. I use the metal one found in my multitool, tho I have to be careful not to confuse it with my disk piston lever :-) Also this is very important: If you are repairing a flat, you only need to take off one bead.

This is a phenomenally old video, but I’ve just spending 45 minutes and 3 pinched tubes trying to install and tight tyre/rim combo with tyre levers. On my first try after this video, I slipped the tyre on with only my hands - Incredible! Perfectly illustrates what I had been missing before.

Thank you for this! I was struggling to fit an equally tough rigid Durano DD tyres. Broke 2 inner tubes while getting over aggressive with tyre levers, so came back to it another day (when I was less stressed!) using this video as a guide. Took my time, no levers, and used some zip ties to keep the tyre in place on the opposite side while I fitted it by hand. Took me about 20 minutes but got it done! No risks of tube pinch doing it this way.

I've always had a blind-spot when it came to fitting a new tube. You know, the last bit, that impossible (to me ) section of tyre hanging over the rim, that -no matter how hard I tried, would NOT go over. Sore thumbs. Broken tyre levers... Until now! The front wheel I've had in my hallway for 2 weeks is now on my bike thanks to your genius use of zip ties. Your demo is a life-changer! Thanks!

Thank-you good sir! I upgraded my bike's wheelset to Shimano Ultegra 6800 and wanted to re-use the nearly-new Vittoria Rubino Pro tyres that were on the stock wheels. The tyres popped off the old wheels no problem but after one broken tyre lever and one pinch-punctured inner tube, I still hadn't transferred them to the new wheels. They seemed impossibly tight. I was about to give up before I watched your video. I won't pretend I had an easy time of it - I have the early stages of blisters on both my palms and my thumbnails had started to part from their nail beds - but by employing the same techniques and tips you demonstrated in your video, the tyres are on and are running perfectly true - and all without the use of tyre levers. I feel like I've joined some sort of exclusive club for 'real men' and there is a definite swagger in my step now.

A very helpful video! The advice about pushing the bead into the wheel well is very helpful, and so too is the tip of securing the tire on the rim with a strap. I didn't have any straps, so I just used a couple strips of duct tape and it worked great. I changed two tires quickly and easily based on the information provided in this video and did it without any tools or levers . . . or cursing!

I was looking for the build invoice to check the rim size, I was despairing of getting this tyre on the rim. Thank goodness I found your video! The tip to use the short straps helped make the difference. That, with the confidence that by continued manipulating the wire edge of the tyre to the centre well of the rim would, with a little persistence, get the tyre seated on the rim.

What brilliant advice. Worked first time for a tyre and rim that looked impossible to me before watching this.

Since owning a bicycle for the past two years, i've ridden to work daily, satisfied with the huge money saving and health benefits that come with my ride. However, there has always been a blight in the back of my mind since myfirst attempt to change a tube. That simple task which no one else seems to have trouble with and yet I struggled for hours when my front tire got its first puncture. Blood and sweat, tears, curses and property damage. Am I that weak or stupid? Do 'proper' cyclists develop super powerful fingers? I didn't know but eventually I took it to a bike shop tried to put it behind me.. Every ride was blighted with the potential horror of having to change another inner tube. Evasive action was taken at every shiny object on the cycle path. I. Could. Not. Change. Another. Inner. Tube, But of course, that day came, it was Tuesday, a horrific day at work with a late night ride home. That night I tossed and turned, I knew something wasn't right. Sure enough, the next morning I was greeted with a soft plump when I took my bike down from its rack and placed it on the ground. I abandoned it and drove to work instead. I bought 2 tubes knowing there would be causalities. Once home I procrastinated, I vacuumed, I tidied and I reached for my DIY 'house to do' list. But then I stopped, I took a deep breath and I stepped into the garage. Not before I had watched dozens of youtube videos on the subject and spoken to trusted friends who cycled. None of that helped, the first inner tube and recently erected punch bag took the brunt (which may have prevented further property damage). I just could not do it, it didn't seem possible. I went back inside and came to the conclusion that my tires were more difficult than most, I can't be that useless. With that realisation I took to google with fresh search terms. It didn't take long, I found this video. You had a beard, I trust people with beards (except those in their 20's with beards and iPhones.) The rest, as they say, is history. So simple, so easy. I can sleep easy tonight. Thank you.

Thanks so much for uploading this - saved me considerable time and kept my blood pressure lower than usual when having to re-fit the tyres! Didn't even need zip ties or toe straps to make it work.

This is amazing, I had pinched a lot of tubes and snapped all my tyre leavers fitting 2 marathon tyres. I watched this video and fitted my third ever marathon tyre first time, no problems. This is the only tyre fitting video that cuts the mustard on fitting very tight tyres. I have the old marathons (bought them 5 years ago and kept 1 as a spare). Talc on the tube might help and some even suggest lubrication on the wheel rim (watch out some lubes degrade rubber) but actually going round and pushing the tyre wall in hard all the way round gets you some slack and there's no other way you'll get the tyre on without a high chance of pinching the tube.

Superb. Thank you. Thought I was never going to get them on. I spent 15 mins fighting with them with 3 tyre levers and still wasn't getting anywhere. Watched this video and got them on before it ended, just by hand.

Thanks so much, i was about to take my bike to the shop after an hour of just thinking "this will never fit" & scratched wheels from using metal to try and stretch it over. After watching your video i fitting both front and back with nothing but sore thumbs. Thank you :)

Thanks for posting! I was on the verge of having a breakdown trying to get these things on. Saw this video, found two zip-ties I had and they were on in no time. This is what youtube was made for. Much appreciated.

Thanks. Very thorough. I got mine on quite easily and felt quite pleased with myself didn't bother with the last 2 steps which I now realise are crucial. Took the bike out and half an hour later on a busy roundabout the inner tube blew and took the tyre clean off! Had a 3 inch split in the tube. From what I've been told it was most likely caught between the tyre and rim which the final step in this video checks for. Won't make that mistake again.

Wow this is amazing. I can hardly believe it. It used to take me half an hour to put a marathon plus tyre on - using tyre leavers etc. This simple method works so well - it literally took me minutes.
