Reducing the loss of heat from the kitchen and so reducing the heating bill. We found that fitting a dog flap can reduce the amount of cold air coming into the house. It also saved us having to keep getting up to let the dog in or out. In this video we describe how the dog flap we installed works and how we installed it.
We also installed a lean to, which we described in another video, which reduced the heat loss from the kitchen, but then meant we had to install another dog flap to let the dog in and out of the lean to!! Our dog learned to use the dog flaps really quickly and easily, and seems to really enjoy the freedom this gives him, as he doesn't have to wait for us to let him out or to come in.
In the video we explain that there is a simple mechanism to restrict movement in or out, so that the flap can be close at night for example to prevent unwanted guests!
