HOW TO FISH THE SHAD SPAWN (Cranking over grass during the shad spawn)
Спорт
I go out to a local public lake during the shad spawn and throw a Strike King 5XD, and Series 5 crankbait over the grass. I give tips on how to fish the shad spawn, what to look for, and how the shad move during this time. I catch some pretty good fish and go into great detail on things you can learn during this time and give out some secrets on what I do to trick these sometimes hard to catch fish.

I was wondering where this went. Lol! You are a hammer and were always in contention for team of the year in TxTT and were always at the top of each tournament so if you say it then I listen. Good stuff.

Yea I had a glich in the audio that seemed like it was off by a second. It made me mad so I had to download it again, and of course I changed some things.
Love these more in depth videos. Thanks for sharing

They are a plethora of information. What I’m amazed by is their on water experience and how quickly they can make adjustments and cover water.
"You just wonder, does he change his hooks? Does he do the little things that matter?" Or is he full of it, and hasn't had a keeper bite in two months! LOL! Another good video Todd. Thanks for posting.

I use the same hooks on everything. They are the best jerkbait hooks ever made. I spend as much on hooks as i do on lures its seems like but if you do not change them out you will loose fish. Great shad spawn video man.

I know once I started changing hooks I saw a huge difference, now I can never go back.
Been fishing along time but wen the rod loads up cranking it's a great feeling. After getting a school fired up in a tournament feels great trying for hours not a fish in the box then u start culling in 7 casts lol. Good hooks key no doubt

Great video Todd! Being both a falcon and lews pro why don’t you use lews rods? Just curious. Do you think the falcons are better?
@toddcastledinefishing5924

I've been with Falcon for a long time, they are a great family owned business and John has really been good to me. I love their rods and I'n not a fan of switching anything if I don't have to. If you notice some of the rods I have are older Cara rods sometimes 6 or 7 years old. My swimbait rod I throw for frogging, sight fishing, worming, and a lot more is my favorite rod. I have 6 and I use them till this day. We are making more finally, but if I find something that works I stay with it. Money is on the line for me. I'm still puzzled by guys that are sponsored and get free rods and they hate them. They lose fish constantly and lose money in big tournaments. I don't have that luxury I need to make every fish count. On the flip side I have a lot of buddies that have switched over and they love their Lews so that is good to know.
Another great video. The owner hooks make a difference. What size pole was that?

Hey great video Can you discuss the difference between the gizzard shad and Threadfin shad spawn. The gizzard shad are the bigger shad .
@toddcastledinefishing5924
4 жыл бұрын
Yes, and probably not. LOL I'll stay in my lane on this one. I know some about the shad spawn and its just what I witness over years. One thing I know they are very unprictable and I sure no less about gizzards.
Thanks.
Great info! What knot do you use on the blade and crank bait? Fluoro? Palomar? Fast tying!
@toddcastledinefishing5924
4 жыл бұрын
Palomar, we have discussions about this all the time. They say other knots are better but if I break off its never at the knot so I never worry about it.
Can you please go over how you had your trebles stored? Good job on the Toyota Series tourney by the way!

Why doesn't strike king upgrade their stock hooks that come on the crankbait?
@toddcastledinefishing5924
4 жыл бұрын
Some I'll use 10Xd, some topwater it just depends. I think they know people change the hooks so much to what they want that they can't please everyone. The others that don't change probably don't care. I can't tell you why but that's my thinking.
Pro-tip 1,000,001: be boat number 1 😂. Digging the conditions in the video for that blade bite. Do you ever downsize your blade on the 1oz spinner bait for grass bass during the shad spawn? 😉😉😉 #gville grassbass.
@toddcastledinefishing5924

the blade bite was not very good I tried but they ate the crankbait up
Watching you switch out spinnerbait/crankbaits and tying them on with palomar knot, I never saw you wet your line before cinching down. Is there a reason you don’t wet the line?
@toddcastledinefishing5924
4 жыл бұрын
It was new line. If you feel resistance when tying the palmamor knot then yes. Tying knots is a big deal, but everyone ties one different. The action is the same but I learned to keep my knot really loose until the end. It doesn't have any friction when tightening up. If you've ever tied a knot and when you get done there is waves in your line then yes it probably got hot. I've learned to not do that. Brand new line helps with that tremendously as well.
Thanks Todd, what size line and gear ratio are you using, do Shad only spone in grass ?
@toddcastledinefishing5924
4 жыл бұрын
6:4:1 gear ratio. No they spawn on bushes, hay, pepper grass trees, hard bottom, rocks, bulkheads.
Todd, on the Zo wire hooks. What's the difference between the STX 38 and the STX 45?
@toddcastledinefishing5924
4 жыл бұрын
The 45s are 2x stronger than the 38s so it just comes down to what your throwing, the rod, cover your fishing around, the size of the fish your going after whether or not to use which hook.
How deep is that grass and what lb line? I’d like to play around with that on Gville but it’s hard since hydrilla isn’t as dominant. Mostly stupid eel grass and star grass now.
