We are from Northern Indiana. We took a vacation down to Marathon Key, Florida where my brother used to live. It's not too hard to catch fish in the Florida Keys, But, there are ways to make it even better. Chum is almost a necessity. Chum is a frozen block of ground up fish. Place the chum in a bag with bigger holds or a landing net and hang it over the side of the boat. The current will carry the chum line (chum slick) out away from the boat. Within minutes you will start to see fish in your chum line. In about 20 mins, there will be a lot of fish. Use live shrimp as bait. Frozen shrimp are very fragile and just fall off the hook. You can use frozen squid which works out great. Cut the frozen squid in 2 inch pieces. Just use a hook on the line with no weight and cast it into the chum line. Leave the reel open and watch your line. The current will slowly pull your line out from your reel as your bait makes it's way through the chum line down the current. If you notice your line coming out quicker, set the hook. Use circle hooks to just start reeling in order to set hook. As far as location, find a reef area or area with structure. Keep in mind the no fishing zones like Sombrero Reef. Tight lines and good Luck!
