How to Finish a Painting with Cold Wax Medium
In a previous video I discussed my 7 layer process to finishing acrylic paintings so I get the satiny luster I am looking for. In this video, I am going through the process of adding the final layer of Cold Wax Medium and buffing it to the finish I want. Feel free to leave a comment or question. I bought a pot of cold wax medium with the intention of using it to seal watercolour paintings. It works great for those. Going to try over acrylics next. Thanks for the tutorial!

Just be sure to steel wool the surface. I've heard it works great over watercolors! Have a creative day!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
I see why you would need the steel wool, unless you are kinda sanding down. When I add satin varnish or wax over the isolation coats (gloss medium layers) it takes away the glossy look anyway.
That's awesome 😎 thnks
I use the cold wax to protect my watercolors !
Great tutorial, thank you. I've never used the cold wax on my paintings, but I'm interested now because the process provides such unique beauty. I use quite a lot of Liquitex glaze as a layering tool, would that be all right to use?

I would make a sample board and see what layers give you the effect you are looking for. Good Luck!
Is there a difference between using varnish and wax? Is it a personal preference? I only ask because I have several pieces that need sealing and I have the wax and not the varnish. I would love it if you could do a video on pricing! I have zero idea of where to even begin!
Are you using this wax over acrylic or only oil?

Acrylic that has been rubbed with steel wool.
What did you apply first before the medium?

gloss medium 2 coats, matte medium 1-2 coats, varnish 3 coats
Thank you so much for sharing your skills and talents Claude. What did you use to wet the steel wool ? Thanks again.

Just water. Even so the water will become discolored from the steel wool but, you wipe the artwork with a soft cloth so there's nothing discolored in your work before you apply the CWM.
Could the cold wax or polymer products mentioned go over oil based artists paint also ?

I know cold wax is oil compatible but, I don't work with oil paint so you would have to experiment,
