    I made a bunch of candles then tried to test later. Big mistake. Well sort of because many of them came out very nice. However I wouldn't advise anyone to do it. Not testing first does not save you money or time because you will find yourself needing to test anyway. I like premiere wicks for my 8 0z jelly jar candles. But even with the success I have had using this wick I would still advise getting a sample pack of wicks off Makesy or whomever sells them and go from there. I tried a .04 wick in a 4 oz tin based off watching someone KZread Channel. At first it burned really. It had excellent hot throw but the third time I burned it I could smell fumes. That taught me a lesson. Use KZread responsibley.

  • @wilcandles

    Absolutely... testing first is crucial!!! Too many factors can go wrong. For example... I can order a batch of wax and another batch of the same wax from the same company a month later and will have an issue with my test results. You must always test... trust me... I have spent a small fortune on testing..LOL

    I do not use additives… I add between 6 & 10% depending on my testing for each fragrance. If the candle does well with up to 10%… I add that amount. If it does not hold that amount… I reduce it and test again.

I started with cd22 wicks, but feel it’s too high. Before I try cd 20, do you think cd wicks are the proper ones to try for this wax and vessel? If not, what would you suggest? Thanks!!

  • @wilcandles

    Yes... CD wicks would be fine. Go to the Candlescience website and bring up their wick guide. There you can better determine the right size wick. I promise you...CD 22 is too large of a wick for you. Home this helps. and welcome to my channel.

    What about doing testing with wax and wick only. I was thinking that to save on fragrance oil it would be better to try wick and wax to narrow down the correct wick size. Then once i have determined my correct wick size then i could do a tested cabdle with all the variable. Your thoughts please

    Hi, I am using beeswax and coconut oil (as Im a beekeeper). Do you know of any interactive wick guides for beeswax users? thanks

  • @wilcandles

    @wilcandles

    Ай бұрын

    I have not found an interactive wick guide for beeswax, but this is chart that I go by... The following is a general guideline to help you choose the right wick size for your beeswax candles. However, always keep in mind that several factors may affect the burn, such as wax composition, color, fragrance, and even the shape and size of the container. Hence, it's always recommended to conduct a burn test. | Candle Diameter (in inches) | Recommended Wick Size | | --------------------------- | --------------------- | Small Novelty | #4/0 Square Braid Wick| Tapers |#2/0 Square Braid Wick| | 1 | #1 Square Braid Wick | | Up to 2 | #2 Square Braid Wick | | 2 - 3 | #3 Square Braid Wick | | 3 - 4 | #4 Square Braid Wick | | 4 - 5 | #5 Square Braid Wick | Note: This chart is a starting point, and adjustments may be necessary based on individual candle characteristics.

    I just did my first order of wax supplies to test from a local vendor b/c many videos suggested finding local vendors if possible. The testing process seems confusing. I did order a log book to help but for coconut soy waxes how long do you let your candle cure to test? Do you wait two weeks or only a week for a baseline?

  • @wilcandles

    @wilcandles

    5 ай бұрын

    Yayyy to you doing your first order to begin your candle making journey!! You can begin with a 1 week cure time before the first test. After the candle cools from the first test, place the lid back on and allow the candle to continue to cure for another week. Make sure you take notes.

    During the section on flickering, a quote from The Uninvited (1944) came to mind. As luck would have it, someone posted a clip of the scene in question: www.KZread.com/watch?v=5D75JsYaKbk The candles in the movie were taper candles, and their issue was paranormal in nature, but I suspect Lizzie's question is something candle makers have to ask frequently throughout various stages of testing, etc.
