We decided to try and locate a lost mine using Google Earth but were sidetracked when we found an old Tertiary channel in the middle of the Desert..... We have to sample it and see if it contains any Gold and that what you should do too .....mark it down on a map so you can check for other occurrences and create a working model of the old channel . After you find the Paystreaks or richest concentrations go back and mine the deposit with the appropriate equipment. If you want to see more videos on finding the River of Gold just watch this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/c4WKrayuldyWlso.html

A wise man once told me "A treasure hunter with a camera has perfect memory", meaning don't just take notes, use your smartphone to get the GPS position of the sample area, take pictures of the sample are and any landmarks nearby so you can relocate the area, etc. Learn from the wise and become wise yourself, that is why I watch Jeff Williams and Lila, I get a Tedtalk in goldmining with humor thrown in.

Jeff… I do not have the words to accurately describe the heartfelt thanks that I feel I owe you for all of the unselfish knowledge you have taught me over the years, (I miss Slim)… I can only hope to someday learn as much as you have forgotten…! To know all that you do about Geology and Prospecting would be a dream come true…! I love your style of humor and the way you always seem to break down advanced college grade knowledge into terminology that most of us can understand…! I will be following you and learning for many years to come, if the good Lord is willing, I turn 61 the end of this month… Bless you and your lovely wife. Have a great day and my your bottom always be shinny…!

I've found that if you put your magnet in a plastic bag, it's easy to clean by just turning the bag inside out after removing the black sand from your pan. PS, I'm glad to see that you're using a Garrett Gravity Trap.

Jeff, you're giving good advice as you usually do. Those 3 specks you dug out could have been sitting near a pocket with a couple of grams or a couple of ounces. Or a few kilograms. 😉 The point is anything can happen if you're in the right place.

Great video Jeff... keep em coming !!! Off US95 near Nelson is Keyhole Canyon, I know you know where its at. Aztec artifacts were found there back in the 1940's, published in Desert Magazine, Nature Magazine, Salt Lake Tribune back in the 50's. No-one knows currently where the artifacts are. Just south from Keyhole is a wash named Aztec wash. Weird note also: Every third Sunday in September, Masonic Lodges of Southern Nevada hold a ceremony there, guarded by Masonic guards during the ceremony... off topic subjects :)...

I was camping in California while I was in the Army. I walked the area looking for a stream just to get water. And that's primarily what I ran across. Fine gravels on top of weathered river rock which was sitting on bedrock. I did do a grid location on my map. And have yet to return to do sampling. But that's about to change. I've been reading geology books and watching your videos. I think i now have the right training and equipment to do a thorough job of it. The more I've learned, the more I'm convinced I stumbled upon an ancient river bed ,and although the quartz was barely at surface level it has the right strike for possibly holding gold. All that being said, Only a thorough prospect will reveal whether or not my prospecting will pay off. But in either case, I will learn more by doing vs, book smart, but field green. Jeff, your videos are invaluable to us "would be" prospectors. Thank you for devoting so much time to help us out. And yeah,! I knew you were gonna get wet! You're panning gold Sonny Jim!!!

I only get the chance once a year with annual trip to Las Vegas when I grab 10 five gallon buckets of concentrates from the roadsides and duct tape a label of where it came from, because I don’t know where else to get stuff Hahahaha then it gives me a weekend hobby through the damn northeast winters and I pan through tablespoons at a time. yes it would and siliceous blue-black slate and schist fragments give a bluish hue to the gravels, hence the name blue leads or blue gravels

@@Askjeffwilliams thanks for that response of broken slate with high silicon content. There is a lot of slate in California. Slate could have been the bottom of the river at that time then. Great gold trap. !. Im always amazed seeing river beds way up in elevation. Road cuts are easy to see them. I took one sample from a red dirt old river bed but it didnt have gold but it did have plenty of black sand. I should have looked for the old bedrock contact zone. Cant really start hacking away the area on the side of road. Too dangerous and i really dont think it would be appreciated! Lol

Just a quick thought I had. You let the material sit in a pan of water for "a day or two" Have you ever though to let it sit overnight and then freeze it? I know a crusher would be easier, but being there could be something great in it. Guess a metal detector would pick that up... Just a thought

As long as you have a ground prong on all your cords you will be alright which I didn't on my extension cords going to my overhead lights in the shop and a bolt hit a tree about 40 yards away and sparks were flying and needless to say I had to replace all my lights in the shop!

Hey Jeff don't let me sidetrack you, , I've been nosing around Lytle Creek, that is my backyard when I grew up I loved your video about Lytle Creek, me being a fly-on-the-wall I know a little history about that place too and that guy that had that gold ore chute , I know the loving family was getting substantial amounts of gold out of there until they got flooded out in 1890, when I was a youngster about 25 I was climbing up a hill, actually pulled up there by a big dog on a leash, almost to the top and hidden from the normal trail was the perfect time of day for the sun to reflect, it was blinding like a mirror a huge wall of quartz monzonite with hydro thermal intrusions of Au , like a dummy I didn't grab any samples and I didn't know what it was back then it could have been Formica, (don't laugh I can make a badass countertop with that)but since then (about forty-three years) I've asked Jeff Williams, he's made a geologist out of me,a shade tree one, okay I'm not certified but I'm bonafide, lol okay fast forward to now I'm hanging out with a friend who has that hill in his backyard, and I've been checking out at the mouth of the canyon how they've diverted the ancient creek flow identifying where the old Creek flowed to see about getting some placer pay, while doing that I came across what II believe is a piece of ore that was taken out of there by the loving family it has gold on it a really nice specimen too since they were bringing out wagonfulls of ore it must have fallen off their wagon I checked on mindat.org, loving family prospects and one of them is x marks the spot above what I just described to you, well I'm going to be 65 here in a month but I'm in pretty good shape for a man my age, there aren't many hills or mountains around so cal that I haven't hiked and climbed on top of so after all these years I'm finally going back up there... To be continued.
