Y'Outta see how I raised my kids... He's mild in comparison (I'm sure they get plenty of discipline when needed off camera like we did that most folks would equate to child abuse these days). I knew the future was only going to get worse and we haven't seen anything yet. The greatest generation raised me and by five our six I could do about anything a grown man could in the woods, fields and water. Grow it, shoot it, raise it. Like the ones before me I wanted my kids to be as tough as a boiled owl but honest, respectful and fair. Kids today that didn't get that kind of raising, blaming everyone for whatever, entitled, burning cities, doing lord knows what are a direct result of fatherless, soft raising.

That mister Roy reminds me of my dad. He turned 98 in August and still goes into work, though he just stopped driving. One of his life mottos is "I am not going to retire until my birth certificate expires". That is now one of mine as well, and I am only 70... As for the boys in the mud, I was really laughing. Me at that age would have been at least as muddy as they were...

After working in the phosphate industry in Polk County for over 25 years, the largest shark tooth I have seen is 8 inches but the largest I own is a little over 4 inches. Go to the Phosphate museum in Mulberry or the Polk county historical museum in Bartow to get a better history about sharks teeth and phosphate mining. Also, you can see a family photo of my wife's relatives for the 1800's.

@@pk56403 Keep telling yourself that. They are not confused but sorely misguided. I and my wife took full responsibility for our kids actions until they started showing the ability to govern themselves. I.e. "Teach them correct principles and let them govern themselves." We were; all up in their business until they left the house! Most of the time these days and even in the 80's there are no parents around...then the "kids" look for stability elsewhere.

I spent the summers with my grandparents in Mississippi. We would go to a spring fed creek and get our drinking water then go swimming in the creek. My goodness that water was so cold in the hot summers of Mississippi. That was some of the best tasting water I ever tasted, even to this day. I was 8 years old then and now I am 72 and can still taste that wonderful creek water.

Fishing as long as I remember sitting in my mama's lap and getting fat worms slapped in my face as she laughs her tail off! My brother has been working for Copeland Farms in Wilcox County Georgia for many years doing watermelon and strawberries....(only bought 2 or 3 watermelon my whole life and I'm 54!) Gabe, I think you are doing a fine job with your boys. They're polite, adventurous and their own people and that's from you being a good parent! Too many kids today get plunked in front of the tv playing video games, and not building their own character the way we did when we were kids. Up where I live even in the winter unless it got to be in the low -30's were we allowed to play in the house, we had snow forts to build and road hockey to play, ponds to skate on and when we were older snow machines to tinker with and ride, and in the summer from light up to sun down we were out running around being kids, and so were all of my friends, and we grew up to be productive people, some of us owned businesses, some worked for different companies, but none of us ever asked for a handout.

That's a seed that will forever be a part of those kids' lives ! BG, as a "farm kid" I know your critics don't have a clue how structured exposure to increasing responsibility is key to developing confidence and self-reliance in kids that will stand them in good stead when peer pressure says " do this or else " ; and they dont ! But be prepared for war with modern educational practice !

@Bluegabe love the videos when you have your kids in them. My two-and-a-half-year-old son loves watching, and would much rather watch you than some of the other stuff he watches. Also just bought my first @Danco. Great knife for a great price. Of course I used promo code bluegabe.

When I grew up here in Windsor Ontario. We used to be in the creeks and ditches more than the fish hehe. The problem was is we brought home a lot of different fish ,crayfish turtles home. We only had one place to keep them and that was in the bath tub hehe .My mother encouraged us and didn`t scold us for doing it either. That bath tub had spawning frogs , Hundreds of minnows for bait, 3 foot catfish ,turtles and even a canvasback duck. lol We would go fishing and run in the house ,throw in the fish to keep them alive before we cleaned them. We need more of that today with our kids. there would be sometimes 10 kids all going out on a ditch fish hunt .Wouldn`t trade the memories for nothing. Thanks for bringing back the memories and keeping it real. Here`s mud in your ears...Cheers.

I’m now 75 and my fondest memories of growing up were playing like your boys are doing, on my grandpa’s farm. Kids in the city will never know the simple pleasures of warm mud out in the fields.

Thank you, that brought back some great memories of my grandpa who would do the same with the oranges for me. I grew up with him and the family running picking crews in central Florida. He could always go up to a tree and pick the sweetest and juiciest orange on it. His other trick with his case pocket knife was to peal the orange in one motion keeping the peel intact from start to finish. Again Thanks.

I like anything you put out with Jake and the boys. Reminds me of my youth and playing in the creek and mud, as well as them fishing! Going outside is becoming a lost art with kids. I'm just thankful that we didn't have a reason to be inside in the'70's and earlier!

The memories you you make today are gold. 90 percent of fathers now days do not spend a quarter of the time with their kids as you do with your boys. They must put more time at the job to keep the all mighty dollar rolling which takes time away from the quality time spent with their kids. Be a hero so they afford things from working or be there for the kids but to broke to do anything. VERY hard to find a job that affords enough time off to enjoy time off with the family AND keeps the lights on..The person that find that career is more than wealthy.

You're doing a great job with your boys. I raised my boy here in Plant City and he tells me at least once a week he's thankful for the way he was raised. Florida the wild way.
