HOW TO FIND classic car shows in your area!

Comments such as "How do I find out about car shows in my area?", "How did you find out about this show?" and "I didn't know anything about this car meeting" are not uncommon on the videos I put on the channel. In a bid to help people draw up a shortlist of shows worth visiting, I've put together this upload where I reveal how I go about drawing up a list of events to visit, places to look for details of upcoming shows, and other ways of finding out about car shows worth a look.
This channel, Old Classic Car, has several hundred uploads on it now, many of which are visits to classic car shows across the country. The site search is worth a try if you have a particular favourite type of event that you like to watch videos about.
Let me know in the comments what other methods you use to find out about car shows in your area!

I've booked a space at the Llandudno transport festival to show my DMC-12 after watching your coverage of the event. Really looking forward to it 🙂 I love your channel, keep up the good work.

Thanks, Rick another interesting post. It is well worth checking the small print on the entry forms for exhibiting a car at a show, some organisers include the requirement for the exhibitor to have public liability insurance cover in place, this is in addition to your standard car insurance.

Whilst You Tube may host other channels Rick, Old Classic Car, in my opinion, is the best of them all. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for this. As I live within 20 miles of Brooklands I really ought to make an effort. At the start of this month I travelled to Gaydon for thr HubNut Rustival meeting. I stayed in the hotel at Warwick South on the M40. It was very handy only 8 miles from Gaydon, and not too expensive. I don't know if my car is classed as old but its a 21 year old Honda Civic.

Great information no matter where you are located. Although I have no classics at the moment, I have attended and shown at many in the past. If you are showing it was normal to leave your windows open a crack or top down when dry out and folks representing various local shows would slip a flyer into your car. That was a great resource years ago. Perhaps facebook has taken over now and saved some trees. I'm lucky enough to have a cars and coffee meet each month a block from where I live that has many exotic cars in attendance, but a few of the cars from the 30's to 70's attend on really nice days as well. I love the variety on the Old Classic Car channel, Rick. Keep it coming!

I used to leave windows open a little and the top down on the drophead I used to display, but I have returned on a number of occasions to find cigarette butts and other "unmentionables" in the car, so I stopped doing that. Then once a car was "damaged", and after that I stopped displaying altogether, and for a very long time, not even attending these events. It left a very nasty taste which still lingers........

Many thanks, a great idea and very thorough advice on where to go for car show information. I have wondered many a time how I've missed a particular show that you have just posted on KZread. Each time I see a show I like on your channel, I make a note and date so I can look out for it the following year.

Loved your clipboard of confusion - the very essence of Denis Norden I thought. I enjoy steam fairs at county shows where they usually have steam commercial vehicles and various sorts of working stationary engines on display which I find weirdly relaxing to watch - almost hypnotic. These shows are often publicised by the road side on posters with dates - they are only annual events tho'. Thanks for your thought provoking video - gonna give some of those ideas a whirl. Erm... please can you now do a video on how to improve the weather to help get me out of the house? 🤣

Ah the weather, best advice is ignore anything they predict on TV and just look outside in the direction of where the wind is coming from :-) Thanks for watching

If anyone is in Scotland - Errol Airfeild classic car and truck show, near Dundee is an excellent large scale show, auto jumble and Sunday Market all wrapped in on (9th June). Another large Scale show is Thirlestane Castle in Scottish Borders (2nd June). Both take whole day to get around, so worthy of a long journey.

Problem in Scotland is there are so few shows and even when there is a show the weather is usually sh#t ☹☹ We have two types of weather in central/southern Scotland, cold rain in winter and warm rain in summer and sometimes 5 days of sun in May 🙏🙏.

A good and informative video I think. I would add one point with regard to a PC search and that is to turn off your VPN if you use one. I sometimes use one and forget that it is on and get some 'interesting' results when doing a search , just a small point. BTW Rick you left your camera behind at the of this video, I hope you retrieved it safely :-) 👍👍

Richard, do you ever hear of any old Ford meets for to take your V8 Pilot? These are popular here in NZ. Would be interesting to see what old Fords, especially the '30s models, turn up in the UK. Your videos are the best. Cheers.

There's talk of a Pilot gathering at the NEC in November although not sure I'll be there for that. There's usually a big Ford rally somewhere or other every year too elsewhere in the UK, I'll keep my ear open. Thanks for watching and supporting all this stuff :)

The cost of exhibiting your vehicle at some of these shows has been rising rapidly over the last 3 years. Organisers seem to have forgotten that with out the vehicles there’d be no show and no opportunity to charge visitors to such gatherings. It’s not as if they give exhibitors anything in exchange for the entrance fee.

Yes it can grate a bit having to pay to display, but if it's a good event then I just look at it as a day out to a nice setting. Thanks for watching.
