    Very interested in the 372, I've got a huztl built 372xp 28in bar. So far, tuned it and it's been flawless but I wouldnt mind having rebuild parts for that day. Just got a ooold stihl 029, scored exhaust side piston and cylinder and before I tore it down I give a little tweaking and actually ran, and strong, I've got a 390 top end bearings seals ect..so it will bump me up to 64.sum cc from 55. I figured y not, same price, I think uncle harv would be proud, between stumbling across bukn then you and now I'm at the point of porting, me and bukn have a scarily similar past and the saws, along with PRS/reloading and building/fixing guns, when the saws came into my life, hard to explain..more than just a hobby. Thank you mr harvey

    SKF make those g660 bearings? I haven’t looked for those yet... I went ahead and ordered the meteor topend for this one I’m gonna be building for myself. I watched a couple guys clean up that port surface and fill those with jb weld to cover those few degrees necessary to block the intake port enough to stop the free porting... guy says that if it does ever break loose that it’s just a puff of white smoke and the saw will eat it right up without bending the crank or anything??? I’m still a little nervous... I’m always measuring my aftermarket pistons to figure out my skirts length! 😂😂😂. I’ve been shaving a piston or two too!!! 😂😂😂. I heard about going around the back door from a really cool old logger who makes saw videos now!!!😂😂😂👍😁. That’s for sharing your knowledge and ideas Sir! You’re a great dude,Sir!!!

    When looking for a vacuum leak on a car or pickup I used to take my small propane bottle and just barely turn it on but not light it. I'd point it around the vacuum connections and when it found the leak the engine would rev up slightly. I'm not talking turning the propane way up, I wasn't trying to blow the car up, just barely. if there was a leak, it would suck that propane in so the engine would rev a little.

    My Farmertec 460 broke two clutches before i put in Stihl oem ms 460 clutch springs in it. It ate up the farmertec clutch in the first couple of tanks. It broke a spring on the second catch in several more tanks. It now has 15 tanks on it without any more problems. There are lots of oem parts on the 460.

    We had two 671's (238) and they never ran away from a hill! They did scream, but what do you expect from a two stroke?. Sure, they could use a little more boost, but the old rockwell 13 speed got you where you needed to be. Never regretted owning those plastic hood fords.

    Everyone of those BB 660 kits from Hyway does the free porting which sucks because they’re beautiful. But also noticed that the base on the the same cylinder had a playing booger on the cylinder base so I had to flatten it or would have never sat flat or sealed.

    That wacky aftermarket port situation is the reason I didn’t “upgrade” my 162 to a 272 top end. I’m just a firewood cutter anyway and that saw can do anything I need it to as-is.

    I'm currently working on a 254xp, just cleaning up the old thing and getting it running nice with muffler mod, no porting. I cut firewood for a couple of hours and it ran nice. I was about to give it back to the owner but on a cold morning start it just wouldn't idle properly and it had been very sensitive to tune good, i wasn't happy. Broke out a can of brake cleaner and sure enough small leak at both ends of the plastic tube, cylinder side was worse though. It would appear to run fine once it warmed up and things expanded but cold it was a bear, tried to make some gaskets but kept failing at the pulse hole too. Will try to seal it up with motoseal otherwise oem if I can even get some

    Harvey, I just had the exact same failure on one of my 266s.. Same green aftermarket gasket. It seems those gaskets have too large of a hole for the impulse. Makes the gasket tear in that spot.

In this video you said about using the same air horn I’m new at this game and I love your videos man! I need some more knowledge from a pro. I’ve seen the saws run that you have done for Mr. Buckin and they are spectacular pieces of machinery. I’m a long time tree guy now working for pennline inc. and I’m looking forward to starting my own personal saw shop and could really use your wisdom. I’ve learned a lot off of you and mr. Smith please make a video for us who have a 60cc saw and answer weather or not the m- tronics bs will adjust for the new port job.

    I check for air leaks with a can of break cleaner. I spray around the base gasket, intake boot and around the clutch and flywheel. If the saw stumbles I then dig deeper. Bad leaks will shut an idling saw in a heart beat. Lesser leaks will just make it stumble a bit but there will be some indication it is leaking. The worst places I have found on my big Stihl saws is the boot to carb connection.i nw tighten the carbs down retry tight.

    I don't know all this business, but I have a leaf blower that will only run on half choke. I thought that meant it had an air leak but I'm not an expert by any means. It's always set at full throttle so an idle test is not something I can do, I don't think. Would that running on choke indicate an air leak, do you think? What we call a vacuum leak in the car business.

  • @johnclarke6647

    @johnclarke6647

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@alext8828 that sounds like a dirty carb to me. One of the problems you get running ethanol fuel. I would pull the carb, pop off the pump and metering sides and clean it up and probably replace the diaphragms and gaskets. Rebuild kits are cheap, about $10 , but you have to have the right one and know what you are doing. There are lots of local small engine repair shops around that will do it fo you. It could be a dirty or contaminated fuel filter, too.

  • @alext8828

    @alext8828

    @@johnclarke6647 Thank you. I will try that. I was worried I'd damaged it by running it too lean with an air leak. Do you think a dirty carb run it too lean?

  • @johnclarke6647

    @johnclarke6647

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@alext8828 sure Alex. There are lots of burned up cylinders caused by running to lean. When I adjust my carbs on my chainsaws I set them at a good pronounced four cycle and check the plug,afterwards. I want it to be a little dark. Dark is good, white and clean is bad. Dark means you are running rich. The white electrode will probably be brown but the end of the plug will have a little carbon wash on it. You do not want a solid black plug but a slightly dark plug is ok. I also check my saws with my tack and try to set them between 12,600-12,800. I also set my saws a little richer in real cold weather. More saws have been burned up in cold weather than in hot weather. I start richen I get up my saws in the fall and leaning them up in the spring. It is not a lot of difference, about 1/8th of a turn one way or the other but enough to cause problems.

  • @johnclarke6647

    @johnclarke6647

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@alext8828 if you think you are running it to lean. Crank it up and let it warm up for five minutes at idle. Then, take it to WFO and turn in (CW)the high jet until it screams. That is real lean, now turn it out ( CCW) until it just starts to miss or break up. That is four cycling (Rich). Leave it there. You can check it with an inductive tachometer. I am shooting for 12,600-12,800, anything under 13,000 is fine for most saws. I may nudge my ear setting one way or the other, according to what the tach says. If I err it will be on the side of rich instead of lean. The key to the life of a saw is the quality of the gas and two cycle oil you use. I run PNE gas and Stihl Ultra two cycle oil at 40:1. It has never let me down. Ultra is fully synthetic and not a blend like a lot of oils. I believe in Stihl saws and their products.
