    Very good point about coming to neck to get the alighnment better. I am an experienced archer but was getting into bad habits and string alignment was an issue, this has helped greatly. THANKS.

    I have been at war with hooking the string for over a year since the last time I asked why you place the string a head of the joint on your ring finger when hooking the string, well I discovered that hooking the string the way you suggested feels very natural and you get a cleaner release, it feels much better and you have greater control of the draw, I was always fighting to keep all three finger hooked around the string with the same intensity and for me it does not work, I believe NOT using your method also causes plucking , I just want to say thank you very much learning how to shoot a recurve is sometimes hell for me , THANK YOU.

    Good timing. I'm really struggling with this at the moment. I started off shooting 20 years ago by bringing the string to my lips. After a layoff for a couple of years, when I started shooting again I started coming back more under the jaw but just recently have started experimenting with going back to my original form - so confused!! Coming back to the jaw does make it feel easier to expand and move the elbow back in line though

    Hello and thank you for this new very useful post. I spent weeks tuning thetab and now I removed every additional component on it and simply crossing thumb and little finger ad you suggested in previous posts. At this very moment I'm struggling with the anchor position. Working on the anchor position for a couple of weeks I gained almost one inch in draw lenght and probably now I need to buy a new set of longer arrows. However the real problem is that I am totally confused about where is the right anchor point. The only certainty is that the string must be in the center of the nose, but I can't figure out where to put it under my chin, under the tip of my chin, under the jaw crossing the side of my mouth, I don't know, I'm puzzled. This morning I followed the advice you gave in this video and I anchored under the jaw with my thumb and little finger crossed in contact with the mastoid nerve and I managed to group six arrows very well in the yellow (9 and 10) at 60 meters. It was only a lucky shot? My doubts at this point are: 1. How to determine where is the right anchor point? 2. When my anchor is so backward, do I risk to do the 'over draw' breaking every posture? Would you be so kind to give any advice on that? Thank you.

    Hi Ash I have just been watching your video it's beginners 1 to 5 It brought all the basics back as I am using again the only thing is I use 3 under and a leather non split tab as I use a single brass knock and slide the arrow up to it , I could do with a few pointers on their as my Nock position is different as it seems to be like a string walking where I have to move it down fantastic videos keep it up all the best Ps Do you do any seminars or demonstrations Thanks lance a gain Brian Brian

    I wear glasses when I shoot and it's actually an additional pain when it slips from my face then it partially obstructs my sight picture so i have to change my head angle to compensate and ruining my anchor point when i anchor--I have no choice but to reset when that happens. I think it's crucial for eyeglass wearers to really include setting the glasses right before we even raise the bow so we can get to anchor properly. Thanks Ashe! I'll try the "hand to the neck, not string to the face" :)

    Hi Allen I’m wearing glasses too and I suggest it’s like you mention..head position. If I picked up my bow after couple of years to start again the game...now with glases you should keep the hard relaxed abs straight , could help you with a better anchor and a safer shooting All the best or let’s say all into gold 👍

    Good point! Glasses sliding down is definitely distracting - Kim Woo Jin would approve of the the little glasses adjustment before the shot 🤓

    It is such a pain! I solved the eyeglass slipping down the nose using a rubber necklace tubing that fits on the temples's tips, goes around the back of my head and can be tightened. It keeps the eyeglasses steady up on the nose all the afternoon.

    Hi. Would your beginner course be helpful for barebow archery? I'm new to it and I've watched alot of your videos but I see they're aimed at Olympic style recurve. I'm trying to learn string walking but I'm having alot of issues with my anchor and consistency with my overall technique.

    I'm by no means an expert, but lately I'm finding that neither a stretch band nor the bow itself (without nocked arrow and finger tab) drive the shaping of the hand in the same way that actually executing a shot does. WIthin that, I'm also finding that there's a 'sweet spot' on the middle finger of my draw hand, for the placement of the finger tab strap - get it right and it minimises the load on the fingers, get it slightly wrong and it's the reverse - hand really has to work hard, and the shot goes to r@tsh!t.

    I'm thinking about wearing a medical neck brace for my shooting because repeating exact head position is difficult. Is there an archery tool designed to control head position? thanks for the video : )

  • @OnlineArcheryAcademy

    @OnlineArcheryAcademy

    Unfortunately there isn't a tool! A neck brace could work 😅 The best thing I've found in the past is attaching a stick to a tripod and placing it so it touches your head. Then if you move your head you'll feel the stick either press in more or move away from your head.

    Great question. Not necessarily! It shouldn't be miles to one side as this can indicate a tuning issue, but even with a perfect tune it will vary slightly depending on each archers string picture and other parts of technique. So don't fret if it's not perfectly lined up. As long as the other tuning tests are giving the right readings and it's not far off then it's fine :)
