I'm 12, I have a tournament final tomorrow against a pusher. In the semis, yesterday, I played against another pusher and I literally almost lost. I cried so much during the last set, her technique and shots were terrible she was just getting the ball in the court and I lost focus and started attacking her and did so many unforced mistakes. I ended up winning but that match was unforgettable. I don't feel like I'm playing tennis when I play against pushers with 0 technique. I really needed this video, thank you guys!

Happy to help! Just remember when playing opponents that have frustrating playing styles, stay within yourself and control the things you cvan control and let the rest go. A great plan is to put extra focus on your footwork and focus on executing a gameplan. Keep up the hard work! 💪

This tips look promising to me. I have been playing tenis for four years and last three tournaments there is a guy who is super quick pusher and he never lose a match. Last time I got pretty close to beating him, but my drive volley and overhad (and also mental toughness) weren't good enought. I promised myself I will do better next time so I am going to try to implement these tips into my game.

Years ago in Florida, a teaching pro called me a retriever, and it was not meant as a compliment. I become a pusher when my confidence is low in my shots, and being vertically challenged I fear the lob, or the passing shot if I advance to the net on a bad approach shot.

Robert Lafferty Another word for retrievers is winners. Playing intelligently and from the back court doesn’t make you a pusher. Go get em my dude!

One of my favorite new strategies against these types is a drop shot off of a second serve. If you’re playing someone that just pushes in the second serve, it’s really the ideal ball: you’re inside the court, the ball is sitting up for you, and no one will be looking for it.

  • @Playyourcourt

Andrew Moseley agreed, it’s a great strategy against someone who prefers to hug the baseline!

I've heard people call nadal a pusher also which makes me roll my eyes. See him coming to the net constantly and putting away balls with short angles? see him slicing to get a sitter so he can crush his instead out forehand?

Grinder definition: a defensive player whose strategy is to never not return the ball back to you: they just keep returning junk balls back to you, over and over and over again until you make an unforced error trying to win the point. They stay behind the baseline running back and forth and back and forth, consistently returning your attempted winners until you hit one out or into the net.
