This video helped me do a good job on my first time filleting a steelhead/a fish in general! I mean I butchered the hell out of it, but considering all I had was dull kitchen knives, I did surprisingly well! The food bank gave me a steelhead that some dude there caught this morning. Really random.

in my country, we can utilize those bones and heads of the fish for a good soup with a few slides of tomato, pineapple and starfruit.

Hey vinner! Try giving the steel head and salmon carcus to your chickens, it will make the eggs brighter and taste a little better!!

I leave the first filet on by the very tail and flip it over to do the other side to prevent the slipping you were struggling with.

Wow very great video Vin!! I will be fishing for one of my first steelheads this spring! This video will help me out a lot fileting them. Will the spring females have eggs too?

I cut the first side to the end and leave it on so the second side ain’t as hard cutting.

I prefer to cut them into steaks but fillets are great

Where was this fish caught. Seems pretty light on that meat color. Usually I don’t see fish that pale until they are more colored up

That makes sense. I was thinking you caught that on the westcoast where I’m at. Either way nice fish. I’m sure it tasted just as goo

I always remove the lateral line from the filets, and I let my knife ride a little bit higher when skinning to remove the dark meat that’s right under the skin.
