I am amazed how long these lamps can stay lite, time wise. What I am wondering about is which fuel gives the best flame and odor free use ?? There are many fuels I would think would work, ethanol or denatured ethanol, methanol, isopropanol 99.5 % plus, white gasoline, butane plus others. What I am wondering is which gives the brightest flame and keeps the wick in good shape?? Would using K-1 kerosene be used back in the day Lamp Boy ?? I am always amazed at the attention to details used by the manufactures making the lamps. Would bet today they would be selling some sort of junk made in a dungeons of ill repute. Thanks for showing us all about the quality made lamps from the past. How about the wick type, braided, and diameter, length used back then ?? Peace LB. 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀

Hi Victoryfirst, lots of questions! The older lamps used lamp oil or paraffin. I don’t know if a particular brand was better or not. Lots of lamp companies supplied their own brand of fuel. The lamps that had a flint lighter required a naphtha based fuel and again the lamp manufacturers had their own brands again. Time wise lamps would burn about 12 hours but some lamps was modified so they would burn for a double shift, this usually involved enlarging the fuel cell.

I am sorry for the many questions LB. My mind seems to always have a lot of questions Sir. Would you know if using ethanol alcohol give longer bird and a brighter flame Sir ??? I know the blue flame is very hot and burns so clean that you will never get any residue when using it to heat water for tea break. Thanks for your answers too Sir. Peace vf@@LampBoy3583

The reason I asked is that every video I have seen on KZread ethanol burns super clean and hot with a blue flame. That is why I asked you Sir, figuring you would test and have an answer. I think a brighter flame too. Well I hope so LB. Don't know fella. @@LampBoy3583
