How-To: Fiesta Sync 3 Hardware Upgrade with Android Auto!
Sync 3 Hardware Upgrade...Since being down and out with my 2021 Ford Bronco, I've been putting around in my, new-to-me 2015 Ford Fiesta.
In 2016, Ford upgraded the "My Ford Touch" infotainment center to Sync 3, and later versions of Sync 3 have subsequently been upgraded to support Apple Auto and Apple Carplay.
Well, I must of been spoiled with the Sync 4 unit in the Bronco, because I couldn't live without Android auto.
Thankfully, later hardware version of the APIM module in the Fiesta were built with some revisions, but backwards compatible to older versions! Plug'n'play!
And because Ford stopped production of the Fiesta they no longer send out OTA updates.
Fortunately, a program called "Sync 3 Updater" is available for free, allowing you to download the latest firmware and updates for which you can flash to your car using just a USB drive!

Hmm, the previous owner might want to think about cleaning up their phone history before getting rid of their car next time ! Thanks for the very useful guide to upgrade. Now I just need to scan eBay....

Boy, I remember when MyFord Touch was brand new...but I also don't miss it. (Well, OK: the nostalgia nerd in me added a "SYNC by Microsoft" badge to my Bronco's IP...)
Do you have any problems with the volume controls on the steering wheel not working? I have that problem and ive read about it a little bit. But I just wanted to hear from you.

All the audio controls work fine on mine.... Hmmm
excuse me i have a question for you, in your case you have not changed the usb ports with the corresponding wiring to be able to use apple car play and android auto with sync 3? just change the car radio? so the usb ports your car had were already suitable for using apple car play and android auto?

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, still the old USB ports. It works fine for Android Auto but it won't recognize an iPhone at all.
Hi, good job. I have a Fiesta of 2020, do you know if Sync 3 device is compatible with my car? I have the simply Sync without Nav and I want to buy it on Ebay.

As long as you install a 2016 or newer unit, should be good 👍🏻
I am looking to do the same thing on my 2015 fiesta Se. What was the model of the unit you bought on ebay and what year is it?

I can't see the ad details any more on ebay. It was a 2017-2019 unit and mine apparently has Nav, but I have it disabled. Sorry I can't be more specific than that
Good job dude. My 13 flex had the my first touch. It wasn’t awful especially for someone new to that tech. But synch 3 is def better. One thing I miss about the touch system is being able to upload your own background photo. I wish we could upgrade the bronco sport from synch 3 to synch 4

I wonder if it's partly to do with part supply and constraints that the Sport STILL doesn't have Sync 4 🤷
