Kinda sad this wasn't touched on more, but researching all the different types of crops and there stages is cool. It tells you what type of seed the mystery seed is gonna be for all of your worlds forever, and you have a little wiki of your own after you research all your stuff. I recommend just making a private world as wormwood to research all the different types of crops and there fertilizers. It's fun.

Yeah, like. I get the video but while watching I was kinda hurt by them "I just watch the wiki" like, bruh. Did you played the game? There is literally the item that let you discover that and it's a progressive item too. You don't need to do other and it will stay on your account.

If you intend to use a Beefalo for fighting you should consider growing Forget-Me-Lots as they can be cooked into "Beefalo treats" in a crock-pot, which restore tons of a Beefalo's health.

Farming is my main source of food, especially as Wicker main I'd say it's one of the easiest ways to keep your fridge consistently full. I've heard some people say it takes up all your time, but I feel like it's basically passive. Once you get all the pieces in place all you have to do is plant the seeds, saturate the ground and come back once a day to put on a one man band for a fraction of a second and you can easily get enough veggies to last you until your next harvest, especially if you also farm meat either through spider dens or doing hunts

I hated farming after the update. I avoided them like the plague, and relied on other food sources which are much easier to get and higher availability (faster). I also play wigfrid, so WHY would I even bother? After a while, I wanted to switch characters and make the most of what I can; Winona catapults, warly seasonings, etc. So I found myself in need of chili, without old farms. So I tried it, planted a bunch of seeds and did the whole shpeal. It was really fun. Really time consuming too, but getting the seeds, researching the stages, your first giant crop, to getting an optimized layout with three columns of plants you want that feed each other and all turn out giant in specific seasons is amazing. I have all the chili + garlic + onion I need, and with friends, I can swap out chili for dragonfruit and get easy healing for them. It's special. I'm a farmer now, as a wigfrid main. Don't Stardew Together.

3:07 this is an error. It's more than 10, not more than 9. You can have 10 crops in a plot and get giants. 14:00 there is another true combination on winter, dig 10 holes on one plot, 10 on the other, plant 4 potato, plant 4 carrots/pumpkins and 2 garlic. You do this on both sides and you'll be able to get giants and balance nutrients

There were some pretty important details missing, but two things I'd definitely want to add is the gardeneer hat, which was VERY briefly mentioned, is cheap to make and will save the information gathered between worlds, so you only need to do the researching once, no need to get a mod or learn what the seeds are. And the 2nd thing, probably THE most important thing if all you wanna do is some lazy farming, you just need to plant seeds and tend to them ONCE, which you can do immediately, and you'll get back 1 plant and 1 seed at least if the crop is in season and you didn't plant any weeds, nothing else needed, no watering, no tending, no coming back every day to check on the crops, no worrying about nutrients. Just plant, immediately tend, and then simply harvest when they're ready.

Personally, I don't like trying to get giant crops because I only play with one other person or even solo, so most crops end up rotting when I don't have access to the bundling wrap. What I usually do is just plant potatoes and tomatoes and water until Lord of the Fruitflies comes, kill him and let the Friendly Fruitfly take care of the crops for me after that. That way the crops don't get giant, but they still give seeds and my only job is to harvest and replant.

Farming is such a fun mechanic. As a Warly main, farming is very crucial to my character so I usually need to know all about it. It's honestly just one of the most relaxing elements of the game, making sure all your crops are balanced, putting in crop combinations, keeping everything watered while making sure you have your composters at maximum efficiency, and making your little storage area for seeds and fertilizer in your chests. It's also pretty cool to use the corn and peppers i get to stockpile buffs for people using powder cakes, and this would be such a slog without the new farming systems

I think people undervalue dragonfruit. Getting your hands on your first batch of seeds is a pain, but they only consume manure, and so its easy to fertilize monocultures. Feed a stack of lightbulbs to a werepig, plant a tile of dragonfruit and get enough food and healing for the entire year. The seed-pack-it also got buffed at some point, and now stores a ton of seeds and refrigerates them as well.

tomato+potato is just too OP that's the reason. You grow one 2x2 field of giants potatoes/tomatoes, which is very easy and low effort, every other season and you'll have more than enough of everything you could want (food, healing, sanity) for 2 whole seasons, at which point the giant crops will rot but then you simply do it again. And if you have bundle wrap it's even easier.

In my opinion, Its very much worth it to farm. Yes, It may not be as effective as stone fruits, but its really close. You spend 3 days for like 16 tiles to grow, you get giants (otherwise you suck) and you bundle all of them for the rest of the year (or put them into a salt box wich lasts for like half a year for potatoes). The thing about farming is that its pretty damn addicting. Youve git giants, now you need to plant the next batch. But this isnt true. Just mass produce everything ONCE A YEAR. Or once every two years. Meanwhile for stone fruits, you need to harvest them pretty often to get more bushes and more overall food.

Farming itself is cool, but it isn't integrated well with the game. It is just there but you can ignore it as you can do everything you need without it perfectly fine and have every tool you need. Compare this to how most other systems (combat and harvesting or even boating) is tied to needed things. If there was 1-2 needed things from farming it would be better.

You can grow all spring and make enough food to bundle for the whole year, including the extra sanity and health you need for ruins runs: dragon pie, salsa & creamy potato purée. But you do need to get the gardeners hat, actually learn the seeds and the crops and their various needs instead of just relying on a mod

Wiki is just other people saying what they think is right, not what is certainly right. The only reason the farming wiki is right is because of the feature these people never use, researching crops at least once to get it 100% accurate

  • @rellimarual

@@ravenman4228 Right? For example, onions can be hard to get in the first two seasons, so if you want to maximize your yield to get all the crops you're trying to grow in that three-way pairing, you need the gardeneer's hat to recognize that you can, say, swap a pomegranate seed for one of the onions so at least the soil in that tile doesn't get depleted. The hat will also tell you want items will replenish which nutrients, so you can pop some rotten fish on there if you suspect growth formula is running low. You also need the gardeneer's hat to build the premiere gardeneer's hat, which will show you exactly what the soil needs. If you've been planting random seeds in it for a long time, it will become less and less productive due to weeds and unbalanced crops.

@@ravenman4228 I want to add another thing. It's not "I wish more of what they were doing", it's more "I wish they play the darn game". Been playing Don't starve since beta 2013 and from my understanding the "intended" playstyle from Klei is to play the game blindly and dying a lot, learning through the trial and error. Now, not all secrets can be revelead (even because Klei did so much mistakes through history and the game is in serious issue of balancing and polishing) but atleast you should have done your experience on don't starve (the only unique one, since the game is giant in content and size). Seeing the video and them knowning everything AFTER the exploration part of the minigame is a BIG RED FLAG. It means they didn't played Don't Starve at all and went straight to wiki which BIG BTW. From my videogames experience, the Don't starve wiki is the worst I ever seen. It's FULL of disinformation or things explained so bad that can lead to dangerous roads to people who want to be informed. Like from all the mistakes Klei has done, the minigame is one of them that you can do 100% blind and done correctly. (P.s while not being meta, this minigame is really strong and not something as he compared with "you do to flex when you already won the game" absolutely NOT. Many of my fellow starvers survived and defeated the game thanks to this part of the gameplay and even resulted MORE efficient in certain situations compared to the normal ones.)

No need, simply tending once is enough to get back 1 seed + 1 plant, you just can't use the normal seeds as those will grow weeds sometimes which may make the other plants only give back 1 plant and no seed. So if you have for example only tomato seeds, you can plant those, tend immediately and then walk away and just come back to harvest them a couple days later, nothing else required.

Wrong, lazy farming is very possible, but it wasn't touched on in the video. What you do is you need to get some specific seeds first, so yes the first harvest is gonna be a bunch of random crap, but then it becomes super easy. You feed the plants to a bird to get seeds, then you plant these seeds instead of the random seeds, which means there won't be any weeds growing, which in turn means you only have to tend ONCE (which you can do immediately) to get back 1 seed and 1 plant each minimum. No giant crops this way, but it's enough to infinitely sustain a farm and get food from it with almost no effort. If you want to be super lazy, I recommend tomatoes and potatoes, as you can simply cook these on a campfire for pretty decent food that also heals for a lot, or you can just use them as vegetables/filler in the crockpot of course.

@@Failzz8 that method still usually takes a few harvests before you have a sustainable farm. and the problem i always run into is that ill do all that, and ill miss a harvest cause i went on a 5 day adventure when my plants were close to ready, and ill lose all those seeds. and unless i have bundling wraps full of provisions, then i goda start from square 1. the way i see it, if you have to be conscious of when youre going on adventures cause your farms are almost ripe, then youre better off going with kelp/honey since its so much easier to stock up on those. im almost always playing solo though, id prolly think differently if i had help at the base and had more mouths to feed, but in a solo world, idt farming is worth it.
