How To: Face Lather and Efficient Shave!
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Geofatboy demonstrates how to do a quick face lather with shaving cream from a tube or shaving soap from a jar or tub. The shave is a quick, efficient every day type shave with the Muhle R89 Twist loaded with an original Astra Superior Platinum blade on it’s 6th shave. The blade seems to shave smoother the more shaves it completes. This is a no-nonsense, efficient every day shave. TOBS Sandalwood and Proraso Shaving Creams are face lathered with the Shave Nation Patriot Brush. Then the Shave Nation Wide Stick alum block followed by Proraso Aloe and Vitamin E aftershave balm. Follow along and see how progressive beard reduction is performed to remove 2 days worth of beardage easily. Click on "Show More" (below) to purchase these razors and other items used in this video or go to ShaveNation.com And-let us know what razor you’d like to see in an upcoming episode of Geofatboy’s Everyday Shave!

Outstanding! Thanks Geo, I was just planning on speeding up my routine with face lathering!
When I want to perform a face-lather, I usually use a shaving stick (Arko, Tabac or Mastro Michè). But these methods also work well. Thank you - once again - for your good advice and instructive video! Have a wonderful day!

Glyc. bases I melt into tubes for travel. Croaps I can just cram into one. Harder soaps Sometimes soften with heat (talow base I try not to even heat to a "sweat") and harder ones I can grate down and repress, or just cut a chunk the size of the tube or tub im going to use for travel. I prefer to face lather and many soaps work well for it if its in a form you can just rub on

With a tailor of old Bond Street in the tubs sometimes I will dab a little bit of it on my face in several spots and then wet my brush and then you can lather it up that way as well.

@@geofatboy Oh, I would use a lather bowl or if one wasn't available I would rub the cream directly on my face. I like the idea of putting the cream in the palm and then using the brush to evenly distribute it before putting it on my face. Thanks for the reply!
Face lathering is my go to. The only time I use a bowl is to load my brush off a puck and then face lather. Super quick shaves that way. However artisan soaps don't lather quick so I use Parker Soap, Derby soap, Proraso, Van Der Hagen or More For You Soap. All of them lather super fast. As for shaving creams they all lather fast. I just take a nickel sized amount of TOBS and smear it on my brush or face, I do the same for shaving creams in a tube.

The Astra's from the production of 2021 and newer are great again and even smoother then before. I own some from different years and around 2020 they were really horrible. Now they give me around 6 really good smooth shaves. I think it could be even more but with my thick beard most blades struggle to reach 4 shaves. And for me, with my beard, a good moist lather makes all the difference 👍🏼

That's good to know, now I have to invent an use for the 8 or so packs of 5 blades that I have left. I guess I'll do one shave per blade before throwing them away.
@chubs2893
Жыл бұрын
@@devildante9 You can kork them, Geo has a video on it. It could at least smooth them out. Besides that I would use them in mild forgiving razors like leaf twig, muhle r89 or king c. gillette. But you can always gift them to people with a cheap razor, to convert them to wet shaving. If they really try it, they don't know what good blades are and you can still give them better blades. If they don't use it who cares, at least they owe you a present 🤓👍🏼

@@chubs2893 I started my shaving path using the really bad Astras and it almost turned me away from this hobby, I have sensitive skin but really thick beard, so they pulled and nicked me a lot, so I would not recommend them to newcomers. For reference the ones I use now and love to death are the Wilkinson sword made in Germany.
@chubs2893

@@devildante9 If you still own them I would recommend to revisit. When you start with something, sometimes it's just the technique that's not up to par. Had that experience a couple of times now. Didn't like the Wilkinson Sword at the beginning. Now it's my favorite in the winter time because they're milder to my skin. Maybe try them with a soap that makes a good cushion, like the Haslinger. If you still don't like them, not everyone has sensitive skin and beginners don't even know what a good blade is 😅 jk

So proper beard prep and the Russian Astra's are the way to go?
Lol😂The 3 S’s
I usually face lather especially while traveling, which I do 32 weeks per year! My favorite is Wilkensen Sword Blue shave stick and then a boar-like synthetic brush. Stiffer bristles take the soap from between the beard bristles and since they don’t splay as much don’t flick soap all over the bathroom and mirror. My personal favorite is a collapsible boar-like synthetic travel brush I got from Col Conk although it’s made in China. At home or longer trips I often prefer actual boar brushes or short rise slightly high backbone synthetics like Simpson T2.

Have you seen the movie "Up in The Air?" Don't think I could travel 32 weeks per year. Props to you!
@Mvendrel
Жыл бұрын
@@geofatboy I have seen “Up in the Air”. My life is a bit more connected to people than his. 20 weeks a year I live in Dallas in a committed relationship with Holly. We’ll have been together for 10 years this June. We live in two sides of a duplex. Most of our together times are spent on “my side” since I am the cook and runner of the Roku and our two stationary bikes are there for inclement weather when we can’t walk our usual 4-5 miles per day. We also live 12 weeks a year on the North Shore of Kaua’i which we love. We go in 3 4week segments in February, May, and August. There we walk more and we also both work from here via internet as we both do in Dallas too. For travel to Kaua’i I do of course check a bag into which I can put blades but still like to have travel shaving gear in my carryon. 20 weeks a year I work on the ground as a Breast Imaging and Biopsy MD in Hanford, CA. I go there in 1 or 2-week stints - the latter to cut down on airplane ✈️ flying a bit. I can store stuff in my office there but still need carryon-able razor for first and last days. Sometimes Holly joins me in CA as she is a composer and has music business and a song-writing partner who lives in southern CA. We also take day-trips to Sequoia and long weekend trips to the Central Coast - less than 3 hour drive from Fresno which is the cute little airport we use for Central Valley. I am very content in my life at nearly 72 (in April). It does give me a lot of experience at shaving while “on the road” and getting there by air :-)
I just put a dab of shaving cream right on my face and work it in with the brush, this gives the beard a good working in less time than when working up a lather in a bowl or my hand.

A bowl can also be used for a FACE lather. Just form a paste in the bowl. Apply the soapy paste to face with a brush. Bring the/more water to the face through the brush. You build the lather on your face, but not in the bowl.
@geofatboy
Жыл бұрын
Got it. This way you don't dirty the bowl and have to clean it after, which takes even more time...
@10floz30minutes
Жыл бұрын
@@geofatboy You still would dirty the bowl. The use of the bowl does not stop a person from making a face-lather. One possible result is less lather in the bowl when the shave is done, but it all depends how much lather or soap is used in the preparation. I find usually that more of the soap goes from the bowl to the face in this way.
