This was very useful! I have to shoot some weddings with the R7 and I was just wondering how far I can push my ISO values in dark interiors and still get good skintones. 3200 looks pretty good noise-wise

Thank you for this. I've been using the R6 with Clog3 for a few years and I feel like skin tones are best exposed around 60 IRE, then pulled back in post (around 1 and 2/3 stops over exposed). In my own testing I found that up to around 6400 the noise level isnt actually too bad, but after that, colors really start to suffer. If you expose "correctly" in camera and try to pull up exposure artificially in post, it looks TERRIBLE - so artificially do it in camera with ISO if you can't actually get more light.

So, the skin exposed at 60IRE would already be over exposed 1 and 2/3 stops correct? If that's right then when shooting in rec709 the skin should be somewhere around 40IRE to get it exposed "correctly" ?

Hello Luke, Thank you for de video! Very helpful. Do you think the same can apply to the Canon R5 in CLog3 or because the sensor is different the results will be different?

Hey, apologies for the delay. Without testing the R5 I wouldn't want to give a defininitive answer. But generally speaking LOG profiles work best when you over expose by a stop or 2. But to find the sweet spot I'd set up a simple test by shooting something with a shadow and keep raising your ISO until you have the cleanest image. I'd then try to set your zebras to that spot. Hope this helps. :)

Thanks so much for this video. Question - is your recommendation put the zebra 1 level to 60% and then expose the so the white in the shot is barely showing the zebra pattern? Sorry for the novice question, I'm new to this 😅

Is the sigma 18-35mm lens excellent on a canon R7 with clog3? And also a sigma 50-100mm lens?

Not lenses I've used myself to be honest. However the Sigma 18-35 is a bit of a legendary lens and I'd certainly pick one up if I could. You may want to research wether they will work smoothly on the R7 first though as I know a few non-native lenses had a few issues.

How do you like r7? I was considering fx30 or r8

The R7 is great. I bought it for wildlife photography and was surprised by the well-rounded and powerful video features. The FX30 will likely be a stronger video camera. The R8 will have the benefits of a full frame sensor, including better low light performance. However, the R8 also only has one card slot and pretty poor battery life. Personally, I think the best hybrid camera you can get at the moment is the new Lumix S5II, particularly if you are more video focused. 🙂
