Get as much as you can for firemaw so that the stacks fall off reliably. The only thing to min max there is having more threat per resistance basically. Get to 215 if you are a warlock tank on twin emps, this is just so you are soft capped. Not much to it. Maybe ill write something up later, but It would be posted note size probably.

As much as I love the modern versions of Hunter, one thing I miss from Classic is unique pet attack types. Such as lightning breath and Lupos shadow damage. I wish SoD would introduce more variety in Hunter pets that have special non-phys attacks. Like giving hunters a quest to learn minor Dragonkin taming for a Whelpling pet with a fire breath.

I'm a healer and I generally agreed that as little resistance gear as you can get away with is a good principle. BUT on Sapph it's very possible to neglect health and FR so much that you risk being "bursted" before you can receive or give yourself a heal by a combination of a few aura ticks before and after an Icebolt. If using something like Juju+Aura and like a Ramaladnis means you take an extra tick or two to die and keeps you alive in those worst case scenarios I think that's fair.

yeah having like 5k max hp makes for a real dangerous air phase. i had a low hp healer alt where i had a special saph set that got me to like 6k to avoid 2 ticks + bolt being fatal. Greens of healing make some things do dangerous lmao

How much value does resistance give at lower levels? I've always wondered with the small +resist items ~level 20 or so and how much value they actually bring. I'd assume whoever made the itemization and stat value systems took a sort of % power level into account based on levels, but hovering over the resistance always just states poor. I'm a bit tired right now so might just not have followed the examples correctly through out, I've just wondered for a while how valuable it could actually be to stack the resistance stats available to you at lower levels.

  • @JakeFromTree

A given amount of resist against a level 20 is 3 times as strong as it would be against a level 60. [resist/( casterLevel*5)]*0.68 = averageDamageReduction if the attacker is a much lower level this equation wont work. the attacker will hit for much less. And this also doesnt work perfectly unless the attacker is close to hit cap

@@JakeFromTree I see - thank you! So - and I assume people who do twinking have probably already thought about it, but - giving one of the big +15 resistance enchants to a low level could be hugely beneficial? Like the +15 fire resistance would count as +45 for a level 20 and probably more so for a lower leveled, so a level 19 with the items Firebane Cloak with +15 fire resistance and 2 Zircon Rings of Fire Resistance = 32 fire resist would be equal to ~96 fire resistance. Which would mean an overall "weak" rating as far as I know but, what would the chances of rolling resists be then as a ~20 (in this case 19) levelled? As far as I understand, it's chances for 25/50/75/100 resists that increase with more resistances. Or the chance to gain a resist:partial resist happens by virtue of amount of resistance at all.

@@JakeFromTree I have returned with a new stupid-haha-ass build, by the way, any thoughts on why specifically +resistance random rolls on armor type items start from specifically level 47? I've made a level 49 build with 319 Fire Resist - so that would be (319/245)*0,75=0,976 which would be a 97~98% chance to full resist a fire spell from a caster the same level as I. Can that be right or is there some sort of diminishing return calculation eventually? Besides there being a difference between binary spells and other types of spells (I assume from you specifying binary spells in your comment). Wait a second, what about auto-attacks from Fire elementals?

Fire Resist also has a different Soft Cap then the other Resists. Starting at about 140-160 Fire Resist... somewhere around there. This is because MANY Fire spells cannot be 100% Resisted... just 0, 25, 50, 75. I tested and made a video on this back in the day... mostly PvP focused but also tested on mobs. Works vs Most Direct Fire Damage Spells... AoE... Mob Attacks... Weapon Procs... yadda yadda. Anything Non-Binary. Commenter in my videos said it works a bit deeper then that... I will see if I can post it below. See if you can confirm or verify this. In SoD at level 50... I can confirm that this effect is STILL taking place as seen in my dueling vids.

Yeah ok... I think its a dude that is just upset I didn't Mention "Fire Resist Works Differently when it is Binary"... Which I found dumb to mention as a concern because that is SUPER RARE in Classic and Stacking FR vs Such things is usually just for the tank. Video was about my concerns for GEARING Fire Resist DPS... Casters vs Melee. Also we recently found that Arcane Resists Effects Polly Heart Beat Breaks (nothing new there) but intestingly its like a TINNY amount of Arcane Resists like 40-60 Start messing Sheep up HARD. Example: No Resist = 50s Sheep... you Brake out on average 10-15s Remaining. 40 Resist = 50s Sheep... Braking out 30s Remaining Average... Lowest Seen was 25s... Fastest Break was after 6s. 60 Resist = 50s Sheep... Braking 35s Average. Gooffy Stuff.

Nice vid man. I hearby dub you "King of Resists". Btw... You missed some info. You talk about it on healers, how giving up SP and STATS = Bad typically. But you didn't mention the difference between Melee and Caster DPS Resist Gearing issues. Rough math basically shows that a Melee DPS can do 80% or MORE (with buffs) of there DPS being NAKED with not but decent weps. Making say, a Ring swapped for Resist gear about a 1.25% DPS LOSS for the Melee Class. Casters by contrast lose WAY More per piece of gear given up. Like, Tragically so. Example: Paladin white DPS = 130 with MoM, 15% Crit Naked... 25% Crit and 150+ White Geared. Even fully extrapelated with ALL the Math its about +25%. Sense Rogues / War Stacking has always been the way... this likely never came up. But in SoD the Concern is real.

Tanking sapph the frost damage was laughable. Week 1 my guild was stuck progressing her and becouse people needed some time to get position down in air phase (and melee not parryhasting in ground phase) we decided to do some dry runs not wasting consumes. I was in my max mit/hp gear and just got clapped becouse i wasnt chugging stoneshield pots si i ended up spending 800g on dry runs in consumes just to reach air phase. After we got the strat down we went and got Wbuffs and killed it and than KT a 5th attempt after the night before reset. Proudest ive ever been of my semi dadguild

You use Fire Resist a fair bit on certain classes in PvP... Paladin, Druid, Shaman come to mind. Its easy to get the resist up rather high and it causes Nades / Goblin Mortar to have a high WIFF chance as they are Binary. 200 Fire Resist for example (tested) gives about a 55% chance Nades do nothing... no damage, no stun, nada. Stranger Still even when stunned the damage can be Reduced. Some Spells are goofy like that. The 55% is from 50% FR and 5% Chance to innately resist Stuns... so if you were and ORC with 200 FR = 50+20% Chance to Resist. Most of your FR comes from a 5/8 Tier 2 Set as she is CAKED in Fire Resist for all Classes. FR... as you know... stupid easy to get. 20+20+15+5 from Enchants = 60 30 from Rag 5/18 from cap (dragons blood / fire proof cloak) So on and so forth. 5/8 T2 + Rag and Change for Paladin = 190-216 Fire Resist... 5200 HP... yada yada. Oh and BURST Classes... Shaman, Mage, Warlock (Succubus / Incinerate) ALL use a fair bit of Fire Damage + Nade/Mortar in there kill attempts.

I cant send a log as a reference, because you need to have a warcraftlogs sub to read old ones. But I checked the last rag i tanked and found the following. -Average damage taken per sec is 1k -Max damage taken in a 3 sec period 5k -75% of damage taken was fire damage FR would have made me take much less damage, but 5k in 3 secs is easily healable. Focusing on threat helped to keep all the melee dps alive, which is more important.
