    Seasonal jobs, temp work, side gigs, and toxic offices are all things I have dealt with not to mention having to deal with personal stuff. Then there is the chicken and egg catch22 scenario where you need experience but need a job to get that

    That was a great video. Ive got a question and I would love to get some insights from you. Ive been job hunting for a few months now and i had a couple of interviews during the same time. Ive finished two rounds of interview from company A but heard from the recruiter they are still interviewing candidates. The recruiter has then offered me a temp role of 6 weeks from the same company i interviewed for and i didnt have to do further interviews. I started last fri. With company B, i will be doing the 2nd round of interview tomorrow and Im wondering if I should mention it to them when they ask abt it as I will be meeting the ceo and coo. How should I deliver the msg so it doesnt raise any alarm bells and what should I say? Do you cover the above in one of your videos?

    In my country (trinidad & Tobago) we job hop. WE have too because at times you are unable to get a job in your specific field. I'm in the Administrative field, and when I am unable to get a job I sometimes work as a Sales Clerk or Janitor. I was advised to remove those jobs on my resume especially if I'm applying to an Admin job. But then I have a big career gap. Is there a place on my resume I can place those jobs and experience.

  • @thatswhatshesaid

    @thatswhatshesaid

    3 ай бұрын

    No do not remove them. Your intuition is correct - you don't want to artificially create a career gaps simply because of the roles seeming unrelated. Your resume should still adhere to a reverse-chronological order in order to not create a career gap. You should start thinking about what you did in sales or janitorial work that leveraged administrative strengths. Things that immediately come to mind: 1. How did you support others in getting their work done? 2. Did you create any processes (even if just for yourself) that allowed you to do your work better, faster, or more accurately? 3. Did you do any work that demonstrated great attention to detail? What was it? Were you praised for your attention to detail?

  • @thatswhatshesaid

    I can guarantee you have had accomplishments in every job. Accomplishments are just positive outcomes that you made possible and are proud of. What were the titles of the jobs? I’ll give you some questions to get you thinking back to your accomplishments.

    @@thatswhatshesaid I had two jobs a year after I graduated with my first college degree. Front desk receptionist/cashier and I quit after two months coz I don't like the manager on how she treated me; and Sales Specialist, for only two months as well coz I've decided to study again in the university. there are no accomplishments really. now, I am now graduate and wanted to apply for a bank teller.

  • @thatswhatshesaid

    @thatswhatshesaid

    3 жыл бұрын

    So there are accomplishments, so please start shifting your thinking otherwise you’re going to have a hard time convincing a bank to give you a job. You can talk about things like: • how much cash or how many transactions or how many customers you served each day in sales and cashier roles • if your customers praised you for your customer service, you can mention that • how you ensured secure opening or closing of your store or office • if you did anything to make your job easier, faster, more efficient and how you did it Luckily you were in school/recently out of school, so the short term roles won’t work against you.

    @thatswhatshesaid I get you, but saying I have accomplished something as a janitor feels like BS. I've done basic chores that most everyone knows how to do at home for free, and that's that... I don't lead, I don't train, I don't have any special projects to work on unless a urinal needs some extra scrubbing.

  • @thatswhatshesaid

    @thatswhatshesaid

    11 ай бұрын

    @@hannah-6080 so what type of resume tips are you looking for if you aren’t ready to try what works? Accomplishments are not limited to leading, special projects, etc. But in the context of your janitorial work: - How did you improve upon cleaning time? Share the time improvement and how you did it - What cleaning products have you recommended to change to? Why? What did this improve? - How did you prevent a potential accident? (I bet you’ve seen a lot of hazards in your work) and what did it prevent (trip and fall? Toxicity? Other type of injury?) You need to get out of the mode of looking down on your work. It’s coming through clearly in your comments and you will be unconvincing in interviews if you continue to think your work isn’t worthy of highlighting all the great things you’ve done.
