Good video. Roofing contractors seem to figure on 25-30% field shingle waste and charge for that amount. On a 12 square roof I asked why the estimate was for 16 squares. Got no answer.

Probably linear feet needed. These usually come rolls of 72 or 75 feet. So count up the valley lengths as a start, and then if you are going to use some with pip end vent flashings, add in some for those.

On the triangle section you said 1/2 Rise over Run.. but did 1/2 Run over Rise.. do you always just Half the largest whether you label it zrise and Run ?

Shorter answer: Where the 1/2 applies does not matter. Long answer: The commutative and associative properties of multiplication mean all of the following have the same sum: 1/2(rise * run) 1/2(run * rise) 1/2rise * run 1/2run * rise
