Good advice. I escaped my country in 1984. No internet, hardly any info available. Just left all behind and started fresh with $95.00 US. Money is a good bid but it is far from everything. I couldn’t speak the language, Xmas in summer, cars driving on opposite side of the road. When you’re 30 you can do anything. There’s no scare just challenge. And the outcome? Second language with a second culture. Can recommend to all young people. IT’s educational and definitely refreshing.

@tombrand0372 in the last almost 4 decades I found only two people interested of my story but quite a lot of people saying how dare me to do it. It’s easy to find a reason not to but the challenge is to find the way although you’re an American. I learned that if I show respect to other people/culture/ country by behaving accordingly then the chance to have any problem is slim. I can’t bring my own 💩 with me. I have to try to learn a few words and sentences in the language. People appreciate your effort. Anyway what do I know. I’m just a former refugee without college degrees.

Although, we (wifey and I) are not 'eight-figures entrepeneurs' but just a retired couple trying to keep afloat in the U.S., we heeded your warnings and obtained 'permanent residency' in Panama under their pensionado visa program as our Plan B. (Currently working on Plan C - Paraguay). God bless you and keep you safe. PS. As a response to 'hate trolls' trying to rain on our parade. Please note that both wifey and I took Spanish in college so a refresher course in Spanish allowed us to function in Panama without any difficulty. Also note that both Panama and Paraguay have ingrained in their culture respect to elders and to Judeo-Christian values so being Catholic is not a requirement to thrive in either country.

What seemed like a haven of respect for individual freedoms and rights can turn 180 degrees into an autocratic, woke, or corrupt environment in what feels like a blink of an eye. BUT, Switzerland had laws up untill recently that if your foreigner, its a bit harder to become a property owner there. Unless... well you trust someone that much that youd let him own a house there for you for ex. I cannot verify for 2022 but that way they protected themselves from foreign workers buying up all the homes there. Thats why germany is germany bc they need fresh workforce in order to stay afloat in pension terms like most european countries. They literaly rely on dumb money to keep the system going. Theres a good reason europe is importing so much workforce, yet nobody dares to speak about it. Europe has almost more people in retirement that working folks. That means red numbers go up monthly because not enough people working means not enough retirement money coming in. Houston do we have a problem??

Canada has been taking a nosedive the past few years and it doesn't look it will turn around anytime soon. At 62 and retired, house paid off; I'm trying to decide whether the rent out my house or sell it and put the money in the bank. I like SE Asia very much and at this point in time, I like to think I can coast on my pension and investments. There are some decisions I need to make soon because I'm worried that the Canadian Government will try and stop the flow of people leaving.

@@kevinisshining No, you can't, the state imposes a limit of money that can be moved and if you exceed it, they impose a tremendous tax on you or they don't let you withdraw it, and you can't simply have your savings in dollars, there are difficulties imposed by the government for that, You can only have CLP without restrictions and change it to dollars at the time of movement. If you want to move money, you have to have knowledge that is not at hand. There is a false story that Chile is absolutely capitalist, but this story was only imposed by the left, in order to take the country even more to the left. 🤷‍♂

European, ability to buy or at least open a bank account and live if freedoms are more restricted, they are still more “normal” in their day-to-day dealings. Just the issue of possible war coming too close for comfort or earthquakes but everywhere has dilemmas.
