With big stage magic like this, it's actually the assistants who do most of the crucial parts of the illusion.

Look, the arrow shows the direction the girl is travelling ..... down ...... just in case it's confusing for you. She's travelling DOWN ...... got that? DOWN ⬇️⬇️ 🤦🏻‍♂️

If she doesn't put it the bottom of that top barrel back in time, isn't the water going to flood both barrels?

It can't flood both, even if something went wrong. There is only enough water to fill one barrel. If the seal failed and the top barrel drains into the lower one, the stunt woman can escape back into the now empty top barrel. It is still very dark, claustrophobic and wet and dangerous. She does literally all the work on this trick. The rest is stage dressing. Of course the stage hand running the pump helps.

The girl has alot of work she needs to do. The trickiest part is slipping into the bottom barrel and securing the top barrel’s bottom. If its not secure the water will leak through.

I'm an astronaut and was struggling to understand which way is down, thanks for the arrow.

Jeez that's so dangerous. If she doesn't get the false bottom back in place properly before the water is turned on...

One of the best tricks. So much behind the scenes work and skill on the part of the assistant, to carry off what looks like a relatively simple illusion. :)

For this illusion to work though, everything has to be timed perfectly. One screw up, and the assistant could be in a watery grave.

Having watched several of these videos, I'm wondering: are there ANY in which the masked magician actually DOES anything? He stands still while assistants (male or female) lift heavy objects or tie up other assistants, then he walks around a bit while awkwardly moving his arms while the assistants secretly perform the trick (obviously), then he reveals the result. All of the clips I've seen so far could have been recorded without him.

Normally the magician would do more to distract the audience from whatever they're not supposed to notice. Since they're revealing it right afterward anyway, I guess they decided to just phone in the distraction part.

This escape is a modern twist on Houdini's Milk Can and it is done the same way. Don't worry there is safety in both devices.

They put too much water back in the barrel. Shohld not have been full to the top after she climbed in and displaced all that water..

So if the water being pumped back into the barrel where is the safety there bc 1 tiny misaligned bottom all the water crashes on her head etc.very scary bc I read article about this.

The lower drum have has holes at sides plugged and repainted if they dont have this, remember that if the bottom cave in, she could just stand water will just fall below.

The more I watch these, the creepier the narrator gets.

Noticed that she displaced alot of water, and when the water was shown at the end, it was full to the brim. Also, I would NOT trust starting a small, gas engine pump. Electric would be more reliable.

Lauren Melendez looking fine. Hard to believe this show aired 25+ years ago.

Since the assistant displaced some of the water before going completely inside the barrel, there must have been some extra water pumped back in to make it appear full.

The assistant had displaced some of the water already before the lid was closed, so the water that got pumped out would not have been enough to completely refill it. When the lid was removed, it showed the barrel completely full, so there must have been extra water pumped back in.

so how did the bottom of the steel drum sound like metal when it is actually a rubber gasket?

When the lid of the top drum is removed the drum still looks full. There would be a lot less water in the drum as her body would have displaced it when she entered the drum.

Nope. The best way is to stay away from water filled drums.

The fact that her hair was not wet at the reveal already shows its fake.

This would have been SO MUCH better if she submerged herself entirely underwater including her head. Was she not use to holding her breath underwater or something? 🤨
