I’ve been rubbing out most of the pencil before painting but have never tried doing it after painting. Thanks for the tutorial. Does erasing with the eraser change the texture of the paper in any way? Can you only add details at this point?

I think the best thing is to play around with it yourself but it doesn’t affect it for me

Hi Harriet, I was wondering if you’ve ever tried the graphite pencils that just disappear as you paint on them as they are water soluble. I find them so useful for this problem. Faber Castell graphite aquarelle HB

Yes I have. I personally like to be able to control when I can and can’t see the lines so I prefer not to have water soluble ones but they are a great invention

The dissolved graphite soaks into the first layer of the paper giving a drab or muddiness to color applied in subsequent layers. The light cannot penetrate the dissolved graphite.

I did this pencil erasing when I was in college. I do not remember which type of pencil I used or eraser.

Well it didn’t in the video and it never does when I do it. It might be down to varying factors but I wanted to share my method on video

I’m sorry but I see no reason to erase lines. Even when I can see some lines, they don’t detract from the painting.
