We at Enterprise DNA do our best to cover as much topics as possible in the vast world of Power BI and data analytics. But despite the numerous content we have in our platforms, it was brought to our attention that there’s one simple yet very foundational Data Visualization topic that we haven’t really covered yet. In this video, Pascal will demonstrate a couple of ways on how you can add and play videos natively in your Power BI reports.

Pascal - Thanks - terrific video! I have actually been trying to embed user help videos into a recent report I'm working on, and ran into exactly the problems you mentioned. This provides a really flexible and powerful solution to that problem.

Thanks for the comment, Brian! We see more and more reports with embedded videos so it looks like this is really something that report developers want to do. Hopefully, this video helps many people.

This is great. Thank you for this video. I was able to get it working. Do you know if it is possible to start and stop a video at a specified time and play automatically? KZread provide this ability to do this, but I'm looking to create small video clips from one large video, rather than having to add multiple videos. Thanks again

Hey Pascal, great video.. I have a technical question if you don't mind me annoying you... is there a way to connect the video's progression (Frame or which second it is at) with my data? For example.. lets say the report is about a building being constructed from start till finish, and in power bi I have a chart of dates (X) and completion % (Y) that mirrors that... then I have a video simulation of the building being built, and I want to connect the progression of the video with the progression of the chart somehow.. Can you advise me on that?

Another way would be to have a Vidoe embeded on a simple Power app and use the Power App visual in the power BI report...This way you can use video embedding feature even if HTML viewer visual is blocked in your organization

Very interesting indeed. What if the video is hosted on Microsoft Stream? Even then we will need to perform these steps?

Unfortunately, Microsoft Stream also has restrictions and can't be used for this

If you add tags to a group of videos in your Azure account, are you able to use filters in Power BI to show a link to each relevant video? So you have 10 different tags, of which each video may have 4 of the tags, some different, some similar. Video 1: Tag 1, 3, 7, 9 Video 2: Tag 2, 3, 7, 8 Video 3: Tag 4, 5, 6 Video 4: Tag 1, 5, 9 Can you use filters for Tags 1 and 5 to give you links to videos 1, 3 and 4?

So is it correct to say that if the video is hosted online (ie., via internet) it cant be directly embedded into a power bi report ..... and your only option would be a URL link thats opens the relevant web page?

  • @bisamurai

Hi Steve. I'm not sure I understood your question correctly but I would say yes. The url is the actual location of the video on the internet and that's needed for Power BI to know where to find the video.

Hi madhu kommi, Thank you for posting your query onto our channel. We really appreciate you taking your valuable time to post it. Firstly, it's not a recommended practice to use the naked columns from the table and use them as values. We need to create measures for them so that further complex logic can be written based on the scenario that you're trying to achieve. And it's always a little bit difficult to judge and provide the results without looking at the data structure, model and working of the PBIX file for the reference. And therefore we encourage you to please write back to us onto our Community Forum by providing the proper description of the problem that you're facing along with the PBIX file for the reference as well as the mock-up results that you're trying to achieve where our members as well as experts team will be able to assist you in a better and efficient manner. Below is the link of the forum provided for the reference. Also you can go through our Beginner's course which is absolutely available for free to all our viewers and develop the basic understanding of Power BI. Below are the links of the course provided for the reference purposes. Hoping you find this useful. Subscribe to our KZread channel so that you don't miss out on any updates pertaining to the Power BI. You can also join our Power BI group on LinkedIn to receive latest updates on Power BI.
