I'm of the opposite opinion when it comes to curtains. Wide open views with nature are great, but 1) I think curtains are super cozy (as long as they're tasteful, not super heavy), I've lived with just blinds and it felt a bit cold to me 2) not everyone has a great view and if for example a neighbor's windows are on the opposite side of a narrow street, light fabric curtains will increase privacy while letting the light in 3) you don't always have to have them obscure the window, you can open them up when you want 😄 Oh, and my favorite interrior objects are plants 😄 They're my main color accents.

AND if you live in a cold country like I do insulated curtains will help with the heating bills for more than 6 months of the year!

also the problem with too much direct sunlight is that it fades colors (in book covers for example) :(

I agree 100%. Windows without curtains make the room feel unfinished. My curtains do not obscure the windows at all because they are pulled to the side. Also, my curtains are from natural linen (in the natural linen colour). Only in winter I swap them for curtains in heavier fabric because when it -25 C outside and your window is huge, you want to prevent to heat loss as much as possible (they are closed when it gets dark).

And not all windows are nice ...
I love how you said (in your book or a video, I can’t remember) how it’s important and visually pleasing to have SPACE AROUND your things. Instant calm!
Haha, my neighbours are exactly over the street and they see everything. Since i know this, i have curtains. Neighbour said: oh, you live there? There is a naked women on the first floor, do you know her? It was me. Nuff said.

Haha I can just imagine that conversation. Too good
another tip: each time you purchase a new item, try to get rid of an old item that you don't use anymore
An elevated bed is better for dusting underneath (beds attract dust) and you get more oxigen at night.
Table settings and well-presented dishes at meal times make life so much nicer.
Love these tips and definitely going to try removing 25% of things and also paying more attention to colour accents. However my house is sadly far too small to push any furniture off the walls, one day maybe! I find it completely elevates a room to do so when possible. Great video!

there’s definitely opulence to having large open airy spaces although that is just not the case for my room either😂😂
I have a very tall big bed with a tall mattress and a big bedroom, and I feel like a princess sitting on it. Love it.
I have been taking art classes or just exploring with art mediums for fun, I love decorating with my own art! I’ll even invite friends over so we can all make art to either take home or trade with each other.
Remove the curtains!!! Love our roller blinds…minimal and practical! ❤️
I struggle with reducing items in my home, because it is such a small flat vs. lots of stuff for work (homeoffice), arts and crafts as well as other hobbies that require stuff. I also have no option for storaging stuff that we only need once a year, e.g. for camping, so it also sits in the room taking up space.
I have curtains for the first time in my life... I live on the ground floor now and I don't like being People-TV. But they're very light
awww i miss you jenny. im glad that your channel popped out on my feed again. ive been watching your videos for few years already, i love you thanks for the interior design videos.
It'd be cool to see how a minimalist interior designer plays the Sims or house flipper, whether taking a premade and furnished home and adjusting with the furniture given, or starting from scratch for maximum creativity
I love that you covered this topic... it really shows off your creativity and skill ❤
I know it costs a little, but….. fresh flowers 💐 😊
I took down the (fabulous vintage orange and gold) curtains in my study a few weeks ago and was shocked at how much brighter the room suddenly became. It is a different room altogether now.
Absolutely! I live in my space by what you have mentioned as a minimalist! Love it!!
You are always right, keep up the great work. Love your channel and thank you for sharing your ideas and perspective.
Thank you so much … this will be so important for me in next autumn or winter. I will move to my old town and I think that I would like to keep it really simple but stylish
the video I needed in the right time!!!! I am in the middle of my room makeover and your tips are very helpful!!!!! Thnk you
Nice tricks, thank you!
I love this!!! THANK YOU!
Thank you Jenny Mustard!
need to declutter here...thanks for the inspiration
Unique, interesting tips. Always the best ideas Jenny! Love from Saudi Arabia xx
Curtains are a necessity to hide you from the strong sun and hotness if you like your place to be chilled in the summer, and when the sun is not that strong you can just move the curtains to the side to let the sun in.
Loooooove all tips! Thank you 🧡🌱
Great tips that are beginner friendly! Thanks!
Love these tips.
Nice one Jenny - agree 100%
I am a big advocate for emptying the space and list only what is essential to function first.
I don't have curtains, but I just put my blinds all the way up instead of 1/4 down as I had been doing and wow, it looks so much better! :)
We recently adopted your “mishmash styles” tip with our dinnerware. We had a matching set of glasses, mugs, plates, bowls, etc. …and all of the matchy-matchy just got really boring. One by one we are slowly replacing the matching sets with an array of vintage pieces that are individually unique but still make sense as a whole. We try to introduce only one or two like-items, that way each design remains special for years to come. 😊

I stick to one color but by different textures and shapes. That way there cohesion with diversity
Very good!
Sometimes heavy and clunky furniture can balance out and provide contrast to lots of light leggy items lots of interior designers talk about this if you want interest you have a mixture of light and heavy pieces. Of course it's personal preference though if you prefer all light pieces then this is your choice.
No curtain owner either. I have beautiful views of my garden. I love being surrounded by nature.
I love windows and would love to keep them curtain free, but I love my privacy more..maybe some day I'll get those mirror films that don't block the light but prevents ppl seeing inside
I'm struggling now to find balance between having too empty and uninviting living room in opposite to cluttered space. For now it seems bit cluttered but in my guts I feel it's not really about how much is there but where it is placed. I'll use your tip to take away 25% and will try to reintroduce only partially placing it strategically. Thank you for this tip!
Love your sweater, can you share where you got it?
I do the same with my windows! The window most public, I have stained glass over it for privacy.
oh my gosh i haven't watched your stuff in a while! you have EYEBROWS NOW!!!!!
hey hey, you're so beautiful and smart jenny🖤
You can have light curtains too. Sometimes it’s just too bright
Push furniture off the wall to make it seem less teenager’s room 😂😂that is a very accurate description
Off topic, but does anyone know the name/brand of the eyeshadow Jenny is using? It suits her so well and since I have a similar eye and skin colour, I thought I'd give it a try :)
I have thousands of books; no clutter is not an option.

@@karenramnath9993 My house is kind of Victorian; books, amateur science experiments, Viking Swords, Medals, guns and weights for lifting. Afraid I am way past minimalist and into mini museum.
The less room you have in a bedroom the less the bed on the floor thing works in my experience so maybe one to watch out for there.
I want to give thousands of likes to this video, Jenny! Thank you so SO MUCH! Me and my husband are about to move into our new apartment, still there is no storage and rooms are full of cardboard boxes, but all your advices are just 10/10❤ Also, I just love your couch and sofa, could you please remind me the brand?
i am so unhappy with my room.. too small
I’m not happy with my kitchen… it’s a dark cherry wood, and I can’t afford to have it lacquered right now, but it’s so dark and dated
Super useful for refugees like me😅
Not a curtain owner either. There are windows out there that will become opaque, providing privacy, at just a touch- Sage Glass
