How to electroplate copper onto objects such as metal & plastic

Ғылым және технология

This is a demonstration video showing how you can use a solution of copper sulphate to electroplate copper onto objects including metals and plastics.
Non-conductive objects, such as plastics are coated with electrically conductive graphite paint to act as a conductive substrate for copper plating.

    You can't (shouldn't) do electro-chroming at home. The liquid required is extremely poisonous. A single drop into the wastewater system, and someone else will have a health problem. See the Pelican case movie; it's based on a true story.

    The SAME CASE, man! =D EXACTLY the same case! I've tried to find a way to make a thin copper layer on a totally non-conductive material... To make a raw copper plate to etching a PCB on it. Now, the answer : Carbon can used for electrolising. So, I have to just make a conductive ink, paint a plexi plate and do electrolising.

    Ive been experimenting. I used a vinegar and 1 small spoon of salt solution and made copper sulphate by putting 2 copper electrodes in solution. I used 12vdc for the sulphate production them switched to a phone charger for plating. Tried plating 2 10 pence coins, a brass .22 casing. It just rubbed off with minimal effort... ugh

  • @InForAPenny2010Adventure

    @InForAPenny2010Adventure

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Walter Wessels Thanks for the question; it took about 10 hours to electroplate the golf ball. Initially plating started at a low current ~0.01A but increased after a few hours, once a thin layer of copper formed and the resistance decreased. Try to plate around the connection on the golf ball first to decrease the electrical resistance at this point; you may need to move the sacrificial copper electrode to increase plating at this location.

    You may have to use a special primer to get any paint to stick to the type of plastic you're using. If you dig around, there are methods to identify what type of plastic it is, such as whether it floats or how it burns, and then match it with the correct primer. It's more of a paint question than a plating question really, so you'd want to talk to someone who paints cars. If I was to pick a paint, just off the top of my head, I'd try paint intended for plastic models, like Testors brand.

    Hello, I want to know what we get in this experiment: distilled water + sea salt + a AA battery + Copper Plate + Black Copper/heated/nano coated. What do we get accumulating at the bottom of the glass when negative of AA battery is connected to a nano/heated coated copper, and the positive is connected to both a copper coil and Zinc plate. What is the name of this chemical reaction or water or the slim/cloud that gets accumulated at the bottom of the glass? Is the water drinkable? What is GANS and what uses are there for GANS? A physicist from KesheFoundation.org is saying we can drink the water to combat the viruses or any virus / apparently the copper/nano coated copper/Zinc water can interrupt the virus power pack, therefore allowing our body to defeat the virus if we drink 100ml of this water. And spray it on our masks, face, hands and back. Thank you :-)

    Don't do that. I was looking at the same idea but the major problem is copper poisoning. Very nasty stuff. And silver is great but be careful when makeing your own colloidal silver as any contamination or wrong particle size can cause permanent blueing of the skin.
