How to Easily Square the Clubface at Impact for Straighter golf shots with PGA Golf Coach Mark Wood
In this video PGA Golf Coach Mark Wood shows you some easy ways to square the golf club at impact for much more consistent and straighter golf shots.
To hit the golf ball long and straight you must have a square clubface at impact relative to the ball to target line. The clubhead being square at the address is just the starting point and with just a simple thought you can keep the clubface square throughout the golf swing.

Love this feel, as a golfer that struggles with leaving the face open, the rotation drill is an excellent feeling for me, thanks a ton good sir!

I want to give everyone an update on this drill and how good the results have been for me. I seen this drill a couple weeks ago and thought to myself, "this is interesting". I have never seen a drill like this so I was leery on how it would actually work. I hadn't played golf for a year so I started doing 30 swings a day using this drill then I would then hit foam balls into a net at home. My first round out after a year, I was making solid contact and hitting the ball very straight in the beginning of the round and thought like most golfers do, I have 16 more holes to go, somethings bound to happen. At the end of 18 holes I was pleased to see the wrist/forearm motion was ingrained and I finished with a respectable round. Still keeping with my 30 swings a day, I'll fast forward to 2 weeks later, I played 9-holes and killed it. I hit 6-GIR straight and parred those 6-holes. This drill is a game changer so I'll keep this drill as part of my daily routine. Thank you for explaining the drill the way you have Mark.

sometimes my short chips ( approx. 25 yds or less ) will squirt severely right...pretty sure my club face is opening too much at impact and it's not due to hitting the hosel.....my shots will go very much to the right ...what can I check or do to help ....also, pulling my trail leg back does help.....thanks much

Does this same drill work with the driver for a someone ie, me who suffers from a slice?

Do you open the club up at the top of the golf swing?

Hi Tim just keeping the clubface sqaure to the swing arc. Sometimes if a player is hooking the ball then the face would benefit from being more open at the top and similarly more closed if they were slicing. Hope that answers your question.

Why can't golf instructors use the terms front/back hand/arm, top/bottom hand, and front/back leg? Us lefties find it very difficult to follow along when you all are biased to right-handed golfers.

It doesn't make any sense to turn the club around, wouldn't it be a better visual to see the club face actually squaring up vs looking at the club backwards? And also teaching a player to flip the hands, that is a terrible advice.

It isn’t flipping. There is natural forearm and wrist rotation in the backswing and if you don’t rotate it back in the downswing the club face will always be open.

he literally says rotate right forearm over left, to most ppl that means twist ur arm and thats definition of flipping. The natural rotation of the back swing is in ur chest not ur forearm and wrist. They are there to set the club. When you rotate at impact, ur not supposed to twist ur arm, its a slight twist of the wrist/forearm and definitely not letting the arm rotate all the way over @@Jam9151

if u rotate correctly and set the club correctly at the top of the backswing (not ur "natural rotation"), then ur club will never ever be that open where u need to look up how to fix it. If u are looking it up then ur slicing, and clearly this will introduce a duck hook@@Jam9151

I dont like this at all. Please do not hinge and hold thru the ball. RELEASE the club. The momentum of the heavy club head will take care of squaring the club face. Do not steer the club face into the ball. If the arms are in sync with the body rotation the club face will be square at impact. Shaft lean is a result of a proper swing and not the result of holding the angle.
