For some reason if i draw with detailed guidelines, i end up mession the whole face contrary to drawing a circle and then a tiny cross 😔

Try to draw portraits more often as you see the person on the reference, without rules and guidelines. Simple sketches. And if you want to improve your skills, add at least the main axes so that the facial features are symmetrical and remain in place.
