I'm a master service tech for Briggs. They do make a 20oz bottle just for push mowers. As a safety reminder always disconnect the high tension wire ie the spark plug wire before preforming any service or repairs on any lawn mower or small engine product and always wear safety glasses. Personally I usually change my oil at the beginning of the season and address the blade while I'm at it. Anyways most Briggs engines have a drain plug on the bottom, but not all and this is an excellent way to get that oil change done. In the case of fuel in the oil that would indicate a stuck float or push rods out of adjustment. Checking the valve lash is going to be part of your anual oil service, that unless you are confident in your own abilities should be done by a qualified tech. Along with checking the float. And remember gasoline is explosive take the proper precautions and always wear safety glasses.

So you're saying I can spend $60. and get most of the used oil out, or I can tip the mower on it's side and get it all out for free? I'm confused, what makes spending $60. (vs free) the right way? I'm not trying to be a nay sayer, just hard for me to grasp why this is somehow better.

You can get all of the oil out with this method. Tipping it can be dangerous. Not only can you spill gas but if you tip the right mower over the wrong way it will start the mower while your in the way of the blades as fas will dump into the carburetor. Plus some mowers are heavy like the Toro timemaster 30" mower so why tip it when you can just suck it out. Plus this can be used for sucking out gas if it goes bad and bleeding brakes on a car. 60$ well spent

@@JonsDailyHustle you don't get all the oil out with the pump tho. you only get what the hose can reach and realistically all the stuff that is likely bad for the engine will settle to the bottom so tilting the machine on its side is more likely to cause any metal or particles in the oil to leave the crank case with the oil instead of staying on the bottom. other option is removing the drain plug on the bottom on machines that have it. it is more work but more likely to get any crap out as it drains.

@@JonsDailyHustle I'll give you some machines are hard to tip, but in that case, the drain plug should be used- no getting around doing it correctly. All the worst particulate you want out of your engine comes out all most immediately with gravity. And having a magnet on the drain plug is second big plus. Sucking lubricant out via a pump should be a last option, ie the engine is on it's last legs or some other end-of-service-life thing is in site. Maybe for a Hail Mary oil change, ie no time, an emergency, it's the best you can do at that time thing, etc

@Dbf Crell we can agree to disagree on this subject and move on. This mower is cheap and has no drain plug on the bottom. If you take care of your equipment and change the oil regularly like your supposed to, you won't have to worry about sludge. And again it's a cheap mower lol, I don't care if it messes up in the future. Have a great rest of your night
