Good thorough explanation. This video helped me a year ago, and I came back and needed it again this year. :-) Something else that might help some people (like me): what the video calls "VFO mode" may be called "frequency mode" by the radio's voice menu system.

Thank you for taking the time to make and post this video. I had no clue how to do this using the useless users manual that came with the radio and while I plan on primarily using the pc software to program the radio, I’m still waiting on my programming cable to arrive. Manually entering a few frequencies on various channels has allowed me to do some immediate testing of the radio while I wait. Thanks again

excellent. easy as can be. and presented very professionally. only thing i would add is the name of the function when you tell me to push a certain menu number. instead of just menu 23, say menu 23 and the name of the function, which is program a channel or whatever, so the viewer won't get too confused about all the menu numbers. there are a LOT of menu numbers. otherwise, perfect.

This is the best programming video for the Baofeng handheld. First rate!

This was an extremely well done video. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I have a UV-82X (2M/1.25M) Does the radio not have a Tone indicator on the display? Otherwise how do we tell if Tone T(SQL) or DCS is enabled on a specific memory channel?

+Eric G if it shows CT on transmit - it is transmitting a CT tone, if it shows CT on receive it is requiring a CT receive tone. (The same thing on DCS) - hopefully that helps

The only one I found that gave the whole process. Holding the menu down while turning it on was missing in all the other tutorials I found.

You state these instructions work with all Baofeng handhelds. I have the Baofend BF-F8HP. Your instructions don't seem to apply. When I attempt to enter the receive frequency, following you on the video, I am not able to enter the complete frequency. Only the numbers of the frequency to left of decimal point change on the display. Any entry attempt for the numbers to the right of the decimal point result with a beep from the handheld indicating this is not permitted. When switching from memory mode to vfo mode is there any indication on the LCD display that lets me know I am in the correct mode for programming? I replayed the video and followed your programming steps but still have the same result. I can't enter the receive frequency for the repeater entry. What am I doing wrong?

AAAHHH!!! Yes! I figured it out. It won't let you add memory while receiving a transmission. If you want to save a memory channel for something constantly casting (i.e. weather channel), take off the antenna and then program it!

I wish you could put out a printed sheet on how to program the unit. I deleted everything then started again with poor results. I think I wrote down all the steps however a print out would be great. Probably not possible on youtube.

hey how you doing im a new technician and i im having a problem in programming these bands my problem is if i whant to program the 70 cm band and the chart is showing me 420.0 to 450.0 mhz do i have to program the 420.0 and the 450.0 and do i have to program the 420.0 on the top number line and the 450.0 on the button number line display or do i just program the 420.0 mhz and 450.0 will be program along with the 420.0 programming and the 2 meter band do i program the 144.1 and 148.0 or do i just program 144.1and 148.0 will be programd with the 144.1programming please help i looked everywhere can't help on this?? thanks

When you are holding the MEM button and turning the radio on, turn the sound up and listen for the voice to say FREQUENCY MODE or CHANNEL MODE. VFO seems to be FREQUENCY MODE and where you will do your programming.

Mihai Scutelniciuc I think I know what your getting at. Why not just have your friends turn the ctcss codes off on their radios. Therefore you won't have to deal with it. Just have them set it to 0.
