    Dude, where have you been all my life? 😂 You are literally the only person on KZread who manages to emulate acoustic instruments using a synthesizer. I have been looking for tutorials like this for years and got really frustrated with all the sound designers with their flashy titles who drag you through hours of tutorials only to let you end up with very banal, plasticky, thirteen-a-dozen patches. Thank you 🙏🏻

    Honestly, amazing! Your sound design is fantastic and you also know how to keep the tutorials clear. Excellent. There's months of learning on this channel. Subd. Just one question. I don't have "point cycle" under my LFO modes (used for the 2 handed play mod at 15:05 in the video). I see all the other modes. But that one seems to be missing. I have the latest version installed. I couldn't think of another easy way to modulate the flip between the mod states on each note. Do you know how to get that mode to display or what other trick I could use to simulate the mod on/off behavior on every other note? THANKS

    Because of this tutorial, I don't need to think about buying any dulcimer libraries or VSTs. Maybe you could also do tutorials for some other string instruments like acoustic guitars (the free options I found are unsatisfying or don't work on some DAWs), electric guitars (the dry sounds, to be precise), mandolins, banjos, sitars, or something. Overall, nice sound.

    Hi Erik, i just downloaded the presets. Most of them are very usable and very good. I encounter a problem with some of them, i think it is because of my setup. I use linux Manjaro and the vital synth is an AppImage, so just a 1 file run program. When i open --Modern Super Saw2 everything is OK, But if i open --Modern Super Saw vital crashes. Not a big deal on this preset, but as an example. Maybe can you tell me the main difference between the two so i can find out what the problem is with my setup. Thank you for your effort. Jean

    @@EricBowman Hi Eric, i can not see the version number. I have noticed now that when i hit the advanced tab in the stand alone Vital Appimage, vital crashes no matter which preset i load, BUT, when i load vital in my DAW Ardour as a VST, everything works fine. Sometimes i use the standalone version to quickly try to follow a good video like this one, but most of the times i use it in the DAW. So problem solved. I am still looking for a good cello or fiddle preset, maybe it is too hard to make? Thanks anyway. Jean

  • @EricBowman

    @EricBowman

    21 күн бұрын

    @@germona You might have a different version installed for standalone. That sometimes happens when people upgrade to a new version but don't replace the vst files for their DAW. You can see the version number by clicking the "V" logo in the upper left of Vital. Realistic solo cello or fiddle is pretty hard to synthesize from scratch, but group strings is a little easier since a lot of the detail gets lost in the group sound. I have a preset for that on my vol. 2 pack. The volume 2 pack was made to work on all versions of Vital :) You can get pretty close to a bowed string instrument using Karplus-Strong String Synthesis but sustaining the note instead of the decay I use here. Best of luck and thanks for the support!

    I can not connect Env3 to the Stereo control button at the bottom right for some reason. It doesn't let me. Did this get patched out or changed? I'm on the free version. I connected Macro1 to control the SMP fine pitch and (global) Spread instead. Now that I'm thinking about it, you made it mono by turning that spread down. Perhaps I should use a little frozen chorus or phaser instead. It seems to sound alright for a 98% copy, but I'd still like to know why I couldn't.

  • @EricBowman

    @EricBowman

    11 ай бұрын

    You'll want to make sure you drag the stereo control to filter 1 cutoff. Then you can drag an envelope to that modulation. If the UI is preventing you for some reason, you can go to the "Matrix" tab, see what number modulation is stereo -> filter 1 cutoff, then assign an envelope to modulate modulation x amount. The effect of assigning the stereo modulator to the filter cutoff and giving it a very small amount is slight detuning between the left and right channels. Then when we make it mono, it sounds like a two-string course where the strings are slightly out of tune with one another. I hope that helps!

  • @vergaerd

    @@EricBowman Thanks for your reply! I think I got it, I set the cut-off modulation to 0.29. I don't think you mentioned that amount, except for "little" and I so went on taste. I think what got me confused is that I was following along and you didn't do the described procedure because you had already set up the "slot" for stereo? I really wish the charango part was more in-depth as I'm not familiar enough with the theory and the synth yet. The settings for many of these sounds are so precise, if you don't follow it a 100% its not going to be the same, logically, with exception of the "to taste" settings. I watched your video on harmonics last night, but I'll have to watch it again as it was a bit much to take in all at once. Even when I start to get it, it will take me a long while to get near your level in practice. I think practice is the key word there... Thanks for everything you do! I love these video's and I'm having a blast following along!

  • @EricBowman

    @EricBowman

    11 ай бұрын

    There might be some changes I missed, especially subtle changes to envelope lengths or shapes. If there's an extra env, I probably wanted a a slightly different timing for a couple modulations that were formerly the same timing. I would encourage you to use your ear and dial in those envelopes to taste. I might prefer it slightly differently. I'll usually change those envelopes according to the vibe of the track anyway. Sometimes you want something really long and sustained and sometimes you want something sharp and plucky.

    In this preset there are a lot of modulations, so this preset requires so many modulations in order to sound realistic. No one: Vital kills Spitfire Audio LABS

  • @EricBowman

    @EricBowman

    Жыл бұрын

    Spitfire Labs is a great option and I encourage you to use it if it fits your needs. However, there are benefits to using Vital. Since it's a synthesizer, you get 127 velocity layers. Most sample libraries have fewer than 10. That might mean notes "jump" out when you cross a velocity threshold. Unlike Labs, you also get a very responsive muting macro in this preset. But most importantly, you can edit this sound however you want, which is much more flexible than adding effects in post for a sample.
