For the hill start: You are better off (or way smoother), if you hold the clutch just below the bitepoint and when you want to start let the clutch up a little (it will hold the car or starts to crawl very slowly), hold it there, off the brake and step gently on the throttle, then off the clutch normally. This comes handy at a steep garage way for example, or anywhere, where you have to be careful. This is actually a pretty good smoothness workout, in the long rung it makes you a better driver and saves the clutch for longer.

This method is a lot more forgiving on large trucks with big engines. The heavy clutch and torquey engine makes it less likely to stall.
I must say - out of all the video I’ve watched, and I’ve watched many…. this video is actually helpful and honest. It’s true; you really gotta try it yourself then watch videos on how to do it. Then you’ll really understand. No point watching, unless you get into a manual yourself you’ll get a better understanding of what driving a manual is like. Thanks for sharing!

Bro your video is well detailed thanks alot
Literally about to go pick up a manual car 😂
I learned how to drive by myself no explanation havent stalled till this day
Cheers bro, nice video.
This videos a few years old so it might be weird to comment but thanks man for going through the steps of even basic things like hill start and reversing. I’m 19 and just recently bought a 1997 Celica liftback manual which I’ve been a bit worried about driving given uncertainties like reversing but you really helped clear up my concerns and misconceptions

What car did u buy and how's it driving skills now?? Im about to buy a bmw 335 manual and I don't know how to drive it yet. I feel confident with all the youtube videos. I have the theory down but now I just need hands on. Always wanted a manual and soon it will be like second nature.

@@Scott-got-caught Wow i just bought my first car a while ago and its a 2008 bmw 335i mt. I learned how to drive manual in it quite quickly, i had my dad teaching me but i took time to try and learn myself. Practice makes perfect dont be afraid to stall its going to happen you wont ruin the car.
Great now I gotta drive off the lot and do this for an hour back home 💀
BRO NO WAYYY I GOT MY FIRST MANUAL CAR TODAY. My homie disnt show upto help me take it home so i saod fuck it and took if home on my own. Watched a few videos before hand. I stalled ao many times on the way out of the guys neighborhood i bought the car from. But eventually i got it...... kinda. I embarrassed myself at almost evry stop light but i did it :)
@coober0_0

The only way I knew how to get out of first was letting go of the clutch slowly. So every stop light I hit I'd hey honked at. Eventually I just kept my hazards on lol

I learned to drive a manual when I drove my first one off the lot. About 3 weeks later I stalled at a green light and got a ticket for delaying traffic. I still stall every so often. It happens with the tiny engines these days.

@ThePropperWay bro that sucks I'm sorry. :( yeH that's why I kept my hazards on. I guess my idea was to make people think my car was broken or sum and could only go so fast ( I was too scared to shift out of second or third ) but I'm so glad I'm not the only person who's had a similar experience
So when you reverse, do you have to press down on the stick for it to put it in reverse?
@ThePropperWay
3 жыл бұрын
Depends on the car. You have to put the “stick” wherever the reverse gear is on the car you are driving.
@user-wm3fc1sk1p
2 ай бұрын
Depends on the car, on certain cars you just move the stick to the reverse position as usual, certain cars want you to press down/ up/ press a button as well, it all depends on the car. But typically older cars have none of that safety stuff.
I been driving automatic for years but my next car I wanna get is a manual. I'm scared to drive it out of the lot if I buy it though.

Make the dealer give you a lesson . They'll gladly teach you manual and let you practice if u gonna buy. That's what i did and I drove it home same day.
I'm a little confused. Why hold the clutch down for that long before you're even about to shift. I thought you rest your foot off before you shift and let it go, not hold it for a while and then shift
@ThePropperWay
3 жыл бұрын
not quite sure if I understand what you meant but you press the clutch in, shift and then release the clutch. On this car the RPM's of the engine stay high for a second or two so I press the clutch in, shift, wait a second for engine RPM's to start dropping, and then release the clutch.
