    thanks. 0:28 so it's clutch down, select 1st gear, press gas pedal and gently release the clutch to the biting point, release the handbrake, then slowly release the clutch a thickness of a pound coin at a time, don't release the clutch fully until you're at a walking pace about clutch and biting point 1:04 so the clutch is 2 plates, 1 clutch place is connected to the engine, that's spinning. the other clutch plate is connected to the wheel via the gearbox. so as we bring the clutch up to the biting point like my hands they start getting closer together until we get to that clutch biting point just like my hands you can hear them rubbing on each other but the wheels don't move because their handbrake is on, this is the biting point. this is where we need to keep our feet really really still once we've taken the handbrake off, that will allow the wheel to spin very slowly and as we bring the clutch up more and more, they'll get squeezed together so eventually they're spinning at the same speed. that's when you can press the gas pedal and drive off down the road and the gas pedal is in control. how to know whether you got the clutch biting point ? 2:20 the back of the car will squat down, the engine noise will change slightly, once you got it, keep both feet dead still how to release the clutch ? 2:50 slowly release the clutch a thickness of a pound coin at a time until the car reaches about a walking pace and then you can remove your foot from the clutch fully driver seat position 3:17 you want to be able to press that clutch pedal all the way down and have a slight bend on your knee, this will stop you from stretching to push the clutch pedal down, give you way more control on clutch pedal. next thing, keep the heel of your foot on the floor and pivot from your ankle, this again will give you more control over the clutch pedal and help you move the clutch pedal slowly without stabbing and shocking the clutch pedal up

    I passed my test on a diesel car. My instructor told me to use only the clutch when moving off but I knew this was BS. If you are in the same situation, treat the diesel car as a petrol car. In that way you will move off smoothly every time and if you buy a petrol car after you get your driving licence you won't have any problems adjusting to it.

    So this is the exercise that I will try tomorrow ahahah I'm already driving with my instructor but I'm more used with their diesel car, which doesn't really need the power of the engine (I mean the gas pedal) to start moving. I tried also a petrol car but I failed many times the start because I didn't set the gas, thanks for the video

    I write here because I didn't forget! I stood in a big parking lot for an hour just starting to move the car and then slowly stop, I kept on doing that exercise but my car stalled maybe 2 or 3 times, which was pretty embarassing. I kept trying 2 ways : The first one was by "setting the gas" and then slowly releasing the clutch, and when I hit the biting point, I start pressing the gas more so I can start and release fully the clutch The second one was just releasing the clutch until the biting point and then hitting the gas pedal so It could get the power it needs, this one was a bit smoother than the first because it didn't have that rev sound since the beginning, but it was clearly harder. I hope I explained good enough, english is not my first language so it gets hard to say something that I have struggle to explain even in my own language

    Think Driving School it does make sense but I’m worried I won’t be able to control my speed. I reverse VERY slowly and I like it that way.. I’m worried using the gas as well will mean I’m speeding up? I lower my clutch to break or slow while reversing or parking and then bring it back up to move slightly how can I do this technique using gas as well? Sorry I think I may be making thinks more complicated for myself but it’s what my brain worries about!

  • @ThinkDriving

    @ThinkDriving

    Georgia Hallett even if you had your foot all the way down on the gas doing max revs the car will only go as fast as the clutch allows. It does take time to get used to it. So set the gas at about 1500 rpm which is 1.5 on most rev counters. If at any time you feel like your not in control just clutch down and brake straight away. You will get used to it very quickly if you are doing it every day.

I’ve not had problems with stalling but rather the car shaking when I’m moving slowly out of my drive on an up hill road, I’m not sure why it is shaking as I give it around 2000rpm, is it because I’m lifting the clutch too fast or do I need to give it even more gas?

    Its weird because when i drive i use the foot brake and get the biting point with the clutch and you can hear the engine noise dip like you said. When setting of i take my foot of the brake and the car goes but very slowly as soon as this hapoens i slowly apply the gas and then slowly take my foot of the clutch. Is that right and does it work in a petrol car? Because im not having any issues with it and i dont think the car i drive in has a big engine either

  • @ThinkDriving

    That does work, and as long as you are in control its fine. The 2 main problems with that is its much harder to feel the bit with the foot brake pressed and on a hill there is more chance of rolling backwards. But like i said if it works for you its not a problem. Remember tho there are times that a handbrake is a very good idea, if you are not sure when these times are make sure you ask your driving instructor

    Theof Varyt if you are in second gear unless you are going very slow for that gear then you will probably press the brake first, it may be that you press the clutch very quickly after but brake first where possible. Francis Colney ah I see, well basically you almost always brake before clutch unless you are manoeuvring your car at very slow speed, or if you are already going as slow as you can in the gear you are in at the time. For example, If you are in 3rd gear doing 30mph, you can brake down to about 10mph in 3rd before the clutch has to go down. So that’s a lot of braking first. If you where doing 14mph in 3rd then you would almost press the clutch at the same time as you are almost as slow as 3rd will allow. Hope this helps
