I drove left hand drive first time in last 10 days in Europe both in city and on highways. It was a great experience. Luckily I had a relative as a full time guide there to help out with rules and driving tips. There are many things other than above that you need to know. It would be good to make a followon video on these. The best thing to do is to observe other people carefully when in a bus or in a cab. 1. Pedestrians is the biggest change for Indians when driving abroad. You have to watch out and wait if a pedestrian is crossing on a crossing without a light. They will just walk assuming the car will stop and wait for them. Sometimes the buses do violate them but the driver will show their hand to you to wait for it to cross. When on crossing with signal/lights, even when signals turn green, some pedestrians may still be crossing and you need to wait. If you are taking a turn, even if your light is green, the pedestrians on the turn may have green light in some countries and therefore you have to wait on taking the turn. Always watch. 2. Understand what dashed white lines and continuous white lines mean. You can change lanes at a dashed white line but not at continuous white lines. The lines will be continuous typically near the signal where you should not change the lanes no matter what. Given that vehicles there run at higher speed, lane discipline is assumed and breaking it is almost a guarantee that the person behind you will ram you car's rear (and yours too if you are too reckless) 3. Overtaking lanes are usually smaller in many places than the regular middle or right lanes. You enter overtaking lane only to overtake, not to drive normally, even if at high speed. The expectation is that you will move back to the right or middle lane after overtaking from leftmost lane. Sometimes if there is a chain of trucks or vehicles, you can continue in overtaking lane. Before overtaking, make sure that there is no other vehicle behind you in the overtaking lane, or is atleast really far and not coming at very high speed. Give an indicator only when it is clear to change the lanes, don't just give it and wait in the same lane. Another problem I had initially was that when I was sitting on left side of car, I did not have a great judgement of right side of the car, given that my car was a big one. Even though I drive big car in India. When I drive in India and sit on right, I know by intuition where my left side of car is. Did not work so well there when sides got changed. Had to rely on aligning the car closer to left side white line and hoping no one will cross the lane towards my car on right side as mentioned in this video already. Eventually, on a fully empty road, I did a bit of experimentation to build this judgement, but looking at the right side rear view mirror and trying to judge where my right side of vehicle will be. 4. Be very careful when driving thru tunnels. I suggest avoid overtaking and stay in right side lanes. In general, when we drive in India, we are not as close to the divider as in Europe. There, because the vehicles in normal (right side) lanes will be aligning the car to the left side white line, they are much closer to it, and not in the center of the lane. Therefore, when overtaking, you also have to align your driver side to be closer to white line towards your left. This will give you a feeling you are too close to the wall in a tunnel. In India, you will almost never go that close because you won't be sure of what awaits you (protruding tree branch, bent over iron, something left on the side), but that's not the case in Europe. The large vehicles were literally on the white line towards left of middle lane, so while overtaking, I had to make sure that the car is really close to the left side white line. Best avoided for first timers. 5. GPS Maps is your friend. Always rent a car which has one, or has the ability to connect your phone to it. It is much easier to drive with maps. Be sure to align to the lane atleast 2km before on highways and half km in city. 6. Understand the rules about crossing. There are explicit rules about who will cross without stopping and who should stop. On a circle, if someone is already coming from your left side and you are entering it, you have to stop and wait for him to cross. Remember, speeds are high and you cannot afford to break these rules. Getting hit on the driver side of your car because you jumped in at wrong time will be fatal as the other car will hit from his front to your car on the driver side, and no car has good safety features on the side as much. Always judge, slow down and then cross. ALso, there could be multiple lanes around the circle. 7. Sometimes you see orangish/yellowish lines where the repairs are going on. These may not be aligned with the white ones and will take priority. Follow the orangish/yellowish lines in this case. Slow down as these lanes may be smaller, and likely to merge ahead into a smaller lane. I did not explore this, but some of the driving schools have driving simulators (esp Maruti) and so maybe they already have one for left hand drive. Would be worthwhile checking it and trying your hands on for first timers.

Agreed ! Rented and driven in both the sides . After driving for 4 months in the 🇺🇸, I had a trouble driving back in India with the right hand side . Had to be very very vigilant , even though I drove in India for most part of the life . And it gets hard when you wanna drive like there in India , you can’t make it to your destination . Especially in densely populated small cities . So , it gets even harder to drive like an Indian after learning to drive with respect and rules in the west ! I feel you !

I highly agree. As in abroad there’s more long highways or roads and manual can be more tiring & stressful. That’s why in abroad majority of community purchase automatic only due long roads. One thing to remember is that an Indian could drive in abroad. But, a foreigner would face lots of issues driving in India. Nowadays majority of car manufacturers are launching automatic into their cars as lots of owners have shifted to automatic as it’s a relief and a peaceful drive.

The only country where automatic cars sell more than manual ones is USA. That's it. In Australia, Europe, Japan, manual cars outsell automatic ones.

One thing to note here is that in the US/UK, the speedometer is in miles per hour and not in kilometres per hour. That will be a bit inconvenient to Europeans/Indians/Japanese or just about anyone who comes from a country that measures distance in kilometres.
