How to Drift: Left Foot Brake
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
How to Drift: Left Foot Brake! This is one of the most important skills in drifting and is definitely for intermediate and advanced drivers. Left foot braking is what it sounds, you are using the cars brakes with your left foot. The reason for this is your still drifting and using your right foot for the gas pedal/throttle. Why would you ever do this? Lets learn to drift!

Same bro. I even practiced on a sim but it's definitely not the same.
Subbed :) There are so few videos on YT that genuinely explain the more advanced stuff, never mind ones that do it well. There are hundreds of 'advanced drifting tips' videos that show me how to pull the handbrake to initiate a drift, or that the clutch can often be useful, or that in order to drift you need to control the throttle and move the big round thing that's in front of your seat - but genuinely advanced techniques being explained in a video is really rare. So basically, please keep doing these videos.
dude, keep dropping the viral videos. I have already noticed an improvement in my sim drifting; can't wait to get some tandems in with you on AC. Cant wait to try drifting IRL.

Hell yes dude! Glad we can help! Can't wait to see you shred!
I've spent a couple months getting myself used to left foot brake in Assetto and my tandems are door to door. Absolutely one of the must learn things of drifting. I'm even unconsciously doing it in real life as well when parking extremely right to other cars in my driveway lol
I learned about left foot braking when I were interested in circuit racing , before I started learning stuff about drifting. Boy I glad I learned that before. It’s not hard to not slam brakes like it’s a clutch pedal.

I have been sim racing and auto racing for a few years now and have gotten so much better at left foot braking but when and how to use it in drifting i am struggling immensely with and this helped! I feel like i am starting to understand clutch kick as well but once again, another struggle lol. Love the irl and sim bids my man, keep it up!
@copperbruh1415

Very late reply but about clutch kicking . Clutch kicking is based off of experience your hearing and overall sense of the car. If you know the right timing and when clutch kicking is necessary you will definitely improve . For example. When you enter and clutch kick , if it’s too late your dead , too early probably also dead . Really get down timing and not only clutch kicking will be easier but same with a lot of skills
started sim drifting recently and have been coming back to these older videos for tips to improve my driving

In the 90s the Silvia’s and 86 and Starlets where one of the most perfect cars for the braking drifts essentially a Keichi Tsuchiya like style drift especially his no E brake style drift when he uses only inertia and brake petal only
I did some left foot braking, feint entry, and never used the e-brake on my vids( mismatched crap brake pads very inconsistent one wheel locks up and not the other) got myself some project mu D1 pads and gk tek ebrake angle brackets
This is true and coming right from the heart. You drift really well and I love it

Technical question: If you have a heavier car, do you need higher horsepower when drifting? Like would my 300ZX need more than say a 240SX to achieve the same results? Or since it's grip limited does it kind of even out? Love the content my dude.
First time you try left foot braking make sure there's no one behind you 😂 I tried it pulling up to a stop sign and nearly went through my front windshield

Need help asap do i need breaks in all 4 wheels or just front 2
why do you need to left foot brake? is it not possible to brake with using just the right foot only?
how do you see the road with all those stickers on your windshield?
I feel like left foot braking has become a huge crutch for me especially when trying to hold angle (by swinging the rear around further). I noticed this when i started drifting in a real car in snow
i found you should try left foot braking first in a sim then try in real live
Left foot braking on and ff does it do something?
Anyone know why my pedal intermittently is rock hard when left foot braking? Its scary as hell almost caused a couple crashes. Its not every time either. Is it booster related?
Left foot braking is something I feel like you just naturally pick up in drifting as you push yourself. You slow down for a corner with the brake and you realise that when you're beyond a certain angle the back end flips out*(so you probably end up in the grass or the hoardings the first few times that happens), and from there you just realise that that's something you can actually use as a technique. It's like skidding to a halt on your BMX as a kid and flipping the back wheel around as you stop. Same principle: the weight lifts off the back wheel and onto the front, meaning traction is decreased at the back and increased at the front, so you can really flip the back around quickly. But I'd need to be know physics properly to be able to explain what's happening with small, delicate left foot brake inputs, like the ones you use when drifting really precisely. It definitely seems like something that, like you say, you never really master because it's just another way of precisely controlling the car, and you're never going to perfectly master that either. I only drift in Assetto and BeamNG, so I've no idea whether any of the stuff I do in these spaces will translate that well to the real world, but I can at least tell you that it works in the opposite direction: the real life techniques really work in Assetto and to a lesser extent BeamNG. It is a technique that I've genuinely heard some people who do these kinds of 'learn to drift' videos describe as 'not necessary', which I do not understand at all. It's crucial, and it gets more crucial the more power the car has. *I think because when you brake the weight is shifted forward, away from the back wheels and onto the front ones which makes the back end slipperier and the front end grippier
Does this same technique apply in an automatic?
I think practicing left foot braking in your daily driving will help out too!
Got to remove air from my break first 😅😅😅

I think I'll be going full standalone ECU that way I can lower the rev limiter a little bit. Don't want to break rocker arms and be down . I think this is a fairly safe way to go about it ?
